I just finished watching the race. Robby did everything that was needed to win the race 1 (in my opinion fairly quick compared to the rest) caution ruined the deal. He would have came out 6th or 7th at the worst with a green flag stop. There were so many cautions, which in my opinion was very predictable, at the end that he would have had a very fair chance at winning.
Now it is time to share my weekend, I was at the SCCA June Sprints at Road America, our customers Viper was fastest in practice and blew up in qualifying, this meant I could return to Ohio and crew chief my friends Grand Am Koni Challenge RX-8 at Mid Ohio today. On the way home I received word that a bad wreck that occured at Road America earlier in the day was FATAL. The driver killed was Tom Thrash who was E Production SCCA national champion in his RX-7.
The RX-8 was pretty good at Mid Ohio but was used as a pinball by the rest of the competitors. Then I came home to watch the Sonoma disaster.
The only good thing about the whole absolutely worthless weekend was I drank and I am not kidding Spotted Cow beer.
Seriously everybody please keep Tom in your thoughts it really shows what is more important than finishing 36th.
The TV guys sucked but they pegged it when they talked about Robby showing an awful lot of body language for a guy strapped down like that. My heart sank when the caution flew. I was so jazzed to see him finally get a shot at a win and knew if he could make it through a pit cycle he would be a contender. Especially when Stewart pitted and came out 7th.
Lady luck kicked Robby in the nads.....again.
I am a huge fan and will continue to be but jeez Robby deserves a little slack from lady luck.
Looked like he had watery eyes, such a bummer, it seems his fans are as passionate as he is, but one thing for sure, nobody is as pissed about this day as he is.
man you got that right- its been that way for 10 years! Robby's the best road racer out there and the issue is that the man (nascar) can not have a single car, owner driver win the race! its been that way for years. Timely, questionable cautions can always do the trick when he' about to win- or if he's leading black flag for jumping the start- or if he's leading and the caution comes out and someone from behind takes him out blame Robby somehow??????( montreal, unheard of decision) Its been that way from the beginning, its the way it is. Budwieser spends big $$$$ and it was their turn to win if Nascar had its way- and the did. How many cars spun out on the track today without a caution???? How many real crashes were there during the last 25 laps that were not worthy of a caution?? Its really ridiculous. But when Robby's leading and a car (Labonte) is 100 yards off the track wait, wait, wait and when Robby passes pit entrance THROW THE YELLOW- its happened numerous, numerous times and theirs nothing you can do but feel for him driving a great race and once again have it taken away from him. All I can say is that he's abetter man than I, I would have had a breakdown long ago but he keeps fighting the man and that one of the reasons that I will never give up on him doing the best he can!!!!!
dashmn, what the hell would you have said if he had pitted with Tony and the Toyota did not get the mileage of the Chevy and he ran out of gas on a green white checkered at the drop of the green? My guess is Robby knows just a little bit more than most about what he needed to do. It was just a badly timed accident that ruined a top 3 finish.
Sorry for the language guys... and I'll try my best here but... F*** you dashmn. You don't need to be a fan anyway. Yea it's been hard being a Robby fan sometimes, but I'm not going to give up on Robby, and especially not a team that works their asses off just to be out there on the track. And there's one thing about racing, there's always going to be a next week. Why don't you give us all a break and join the Micheal Waltrip fan club or whatever.
