It's not the racing that sucks - it's the TV coverage. It's predictable, and the commentators are amateurs at best. If I hear some guy with a drawl say 'it is what it is' again, I'll blow chunks...
When Sr. past away, so did alot of our sport in many different ways. I still watch because I believe in the sport and the drivers. As much as people hate some of todays drivers, they have some of the old fire in them. Those drivers, 2 off the top of my list, are Robby and Kyle. Robby does it his way and Kyle drives like a man on fire. This race will be one of the best since the chase started, and looking forward to it. IMHO
Me kinda thinks" BOREING", everybody look out for chase guys, but race your own race=KC 35th finish
kyle drove like a man on fire, literally!
I don't like it either, but racing back to the caution can be dangerous. I would like to see them add not only the first car a lap down get it but more imortantly, the first car behind the leader get a lap back, no matter how many laps down they are. After all, the lucky dog was put in place to make up for not being able to race back to the caution and get a lap back, so why not give it to the one that was most likely to get a lap back under the old rule.
Between the lucky dog, top 35, and the chase points rules, to much is given away and not earned.
The lucky dog is a Robby rule. He forced Nascar's hand on "southern good-old-boy gentleman's agreement vs. rule, is it or isn't it? And thats probably a good thing. They still have plenty of gray area crap with "actions detrimental..."
The "Lucky Dog" is so called because, it was Jimmy Spencer Sirius #7, with Mongo on the hood that was the recipient of one of the first get your lap back drive around. If i'm wrong i will be corrected no doubt!
isn't it because the "free pass" is sponsored by aaron's and their mascot is the lucky dog? that's what I always thought..
NigeletUK, you have a memory like a steel trap ! I always thought the paint job on Jimmy's Serius car was one of the coolest around, so thanks for the memory.
I think you are wrong (but I'm not sure). More likely a tie in to M. Waltrip and his Aaron's sponsorship. They developed a dog as a mascot, then his brother, "ol DW" started calling the wave around recipient a"lucky dog". Probably not a coincidence and I'm sure NASCAR and MWR raised some revenue on the deal.
NigeletUK was right:

Why is it called the ‘Lucky Dog’?
The first race that the new rule was used at Dover International Speedway on September 21, 2003. Driver Jimmy Spencer whose sponsor logo featured a dog was given the ‘free pass’. One of the television commentators (Benny Parsons) called Spencer the ‘Lucky Dog’.
Nah...people like to say that due ot the pass of Harvick at Sonoma...but it was Dale Jarrett spun out and sitting like a dead duck sideways at New Hampshire later in the year as cars BLEW by him racing back to the yellow that made this sea change in Nascar,,

He's lucky to be alive...a lot of things could have gone wrong there..

And Bravo for Nigel for that great tidbit of Nascar history!
