Robby’s Thoughts – “I’m really looking forward to going back to Phoenix [International Raceway] with the Polaris team. Given the popularity of the off-road industry out here along with our great fan base, it made perfect sense for us to partner with Polaris for this race,” said Gordon. “Being from the West Coast, Phoenix is a track that I enjoy racing. I’ve won in Loudon [at New Hampshire Motor Speedway] before, and that track is kind of similar to this one—both are very fast, flat, short tracks. We had a great finish here earlier this year. The guys have done a great job this season continually preparing cars and improving our short-track program, so I am really looking forward to this weekend.”
Gordon’s Past Performances at Phoenix – Phoenix International Raceway will always hold a special place in Gordon’s heart as it was the site of his first CART victory. Since making his Cup debut at Phoenix International Raceway in 1996, Gordon has recorded 16 starts and logged more than 4,500 laps at the 1-mile oval. In just his second start, Gordon recorded his best finish (7th) before winning his best qualifying position (9th) the following year. In his most recent start at the Arizona track, Gordon raced his way into the field and drove to a 14th-place finish.
Over the Off-Season – While most of his competitors in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series enjoy their off-season relaxing with friends and family, Gordon will spend several weeks competing in a variety of vehicles and racing series. First watch for Gordon in the final event of the 2010 SCORE International Off-Road Series season—the Baja 1000, November 18, 2010. Immediately after the conclusion of that event, Gordon will be fully engaged in his preparation for the 2011 Dakar Rally which takes place in January. Gordon will race across the desert and mountainous terrain of South America in one of the most grueling races in the world.
Race Coverage – The Kobalt Tools 500 from Phoenix International Raceway will be aired live on ESPN on Sunday, November 14, beginning at 3:00 p.m. EST.
