Awesome that Robby is making the business progress he has to keep racing. Already running more races so far then any of us expected. Shine practice if need be, he is locked in and honestly practice has not been helping anyway. Hopefully Miles has it figured out and has the car set up better.

that's what gets overlooked.....Back in February, races like Talladega, Martinsville, etc weren't even a consideration.

if the car/crew is already there ... can someone tell me about how much is saved when you start and park over running the race ??? is it the tires/fuel or is there other cost that is overlooked ????

Maybe I can answer some of your questions. For starters a set of 4 tires is about $2500. Depending on the track you are given 4 sets to practice on and a set to qualify on. After qualifying you must turn in your 4 sets of practice tires to be able to get your race tires. Depending on the track you are allowed to be a specified amount of race tires. I believe around 13 sets per race is round the average. So just by looking at these numbers your tire bill is around $45,000.

A fresh leased Cup engine to run the whole race can be around $65 -$80 grand. By doing a start and park you can run the same engine a few times. Or in the case of RG (If he is S&P) he can take last week's engine and put a few more miles on it. Saving him a huge engine bill.

As far as a crew and spotters. Most Cup spotters can get around $1000 a race. NW spotters around $500 and truck $250, plus travel and lodging costs. Many times spotters will work for as many series that are racing at that track that weekend. (For example Jeff Green is Justin Lofton's spotter. If their is a NW race at that same track Jeff might pick up a spotter job with a NW team also. So he could make $750 that weekend.) I dont have specifics for over the wall crews. But many are well payed and also get travel and lodging expenses payed. Some teams also have deals where a percentage of the prize money is given to the over the wall crew.

Sunoco gives the teams the race fuel, so fuel is not an issue.

Also all parts on a race car are giving a mileage or hour life span. So you might only get 500 miles out of the rear end bearings and gears. Where as a S&P might not have to tear down and replace all those parts for 3 races, same thing goes for transmissions. Also these potential costs do not include if you damage the car, which at Darlington you are almost sure to have to put a new right side on the car after the race.

So as you can see it can get very expensive to run a complete race and that is if you do not get in a wreak. Oh and if you wreak in practice like Kurt Bush did. Guess what you must pay to enter a back up car. You have to pay inspection fee's. I dont know the exact cost, but I was told it was around a couple of grand.

A bit a trivia, How much do you think a single windshield tear off costs? Answer is around $50 each.
Thank you Nikal.Sorry Jess,My day job required my attention.As you can see by the numbers that Nikal posted unless there is an actual paid in full advertising partner the purse money doesn't cover expenses.
WJM and I started this consersation years ago about the purse$ vs race laps.We changed the formula to purse$ vs race miles acouple of years ago,so the formula apply's to all tracks/race lengths. Races ran to full or near full are a monetary burden on teams with lower funding.
WJM has the Excell speadsheet for the NBP.
