Quotes from Stage 8 of the 2012 Dakar Rally

Robby Gordon - Finished 2nd

" Nani Roma may have beat me, but it must have been close. Beating Peterhansel by seven minutes makes this a great day. In all honesty, I did not attack too much, except towards the end of the stage. At any rate, I was not at my best in the first 300 kilometres, only in the last 150. I felt the others breathing down my neck, so I accelerated."

Nasser Al Attiyah - Finished 5th

"We had a problem with an engine belt. We repaired it... and shortly after it was the alternator's turn to need a repair. But then we started attacking in earnest. There were six cars in front of us and we overtook all the Minis, as well as De Villiers' Toyota. We did a good job. They are nervous because I overtook all of them, but that is not my problem. I know everything is going smoothly, and we will see how far we can go."

boo hoo they have been racing together for 6 Dakars. They were not feeling sorry for the Hummers when they run on WRC type stages. They can build SCORE type cars if they want to.

Geez, a couple years ago,, VW, BMW,Mitsubishi etc, were not complaining about the Hummer. Thats when they were winning and Hummer was being developed/refined to compete in this race.
Seems tables are turned this year.

Both of you beat me to it! BMW wasn't bitching when they were dominating... Lol.

Europeans are so whiny... No wonder the euro is in a crisis... Lol

Refresh my memory, but arent the Hummers the fastest on every stage? Besides driver error and silly mistakes, wouldnt the Hummers have won everyday?

This is not new. Each year, it's always the same story. The losers are still trying to justify their eventual defeat.

What a bunch of friggin whine bags. It's simple, the short wheelbase rigs with 4WD rock in the technical twisty sections of WRC style stages, especially when it's wet and sloppy. For the last 2 years the course has featured a significant amount of these sections and the weather contributed during the first week. The Hummers had no friggin chance. This year the course is split up a bit more evenly and they're whining. And, oh by the way....they're holding positions 1, 3, 4, & 7. So they're beatching about the car that's not even leading, and don't say "we'll be leading tomorrow" because that's a jinx and we all know what can happen. In other words, if it rained and we were running last years course they'd be whistling dixie. Run the course that's presented and STFU......and how about we wait until the rally is over before we complain eh? Sorry, rant off.

Another great stage!!! Keep it up Robby...U.S.A.

I really don't have a problem with what Roma said. You guys are all correct, but the whining is mostly the European press. Having had the chance to watch each stage closely (live) this year (unemployed), its amazing how biased, and sometimes wrong even the British "analysts/reporters" are about the strategy and what is actually happenning.

@ R.ALDRIDGE are you actually watching live( video) or computer tracking?

Computer tracking, but if you pay attention to the profile of each stage, elevation and surface features, abilities of each car and driver, and strategy of each team, and know the rules regarding intervals, you can "see" or infer quite a lot as each stage progresses. The people on chat each day are having a good time, but many of them don't have a clue as to whats actually happening during the stage.

Nobody dominated more than VW and all you heard was how superior they were,,, Euro Pussys

Easy on the anti-Euro comments :-)
