Quotes from Stage 9 of the 2012 Dakar Rally

Robby Gordon - WINNER!

" It was a very good special for us again. Now it's just a waiting game to see how soon Peterhansel comes behind me. On the transfer stage, I think we had him beat by about a minute and a half. But we need more than a minute and a half, so I pushed very hard on the last section, as hard as I could go the whole time and it will be interesting to see how much time we put on him because we pushed, like qualifying hard, not really knowing where you're going. We had a couple of big scary moments. For us, we've got to make time. We're in a different position to him. He has to conserve his time and I've got to make it. We've got four days left, four real days of racing left and the Hummer's strong. 19 seconds? He made a lot of time up on me, then. I can't believe he could catch us there, because we were going crazy. So he's a madman; if he beats us, he's a madman. Madder than me! "

hope he rans out of red bull before making more statements,. haha

I tend to agree with you though some more knowlageable people than myself here on the planet might diagree, it just seems that when Robby has driven balls out as Nasser was he had issues also. As for Nasser not coming back it doesn't bother me, the guy is obviously a great talent but he really needed to conserve the equipment and he still could have made up time, plus he just doesn't seem to fit the team Speed Energy mold as to pitching in and getting your hands dirty he made that clear early on when he made a face when talking about having to work with the mechanics in the bivuacs. Overall he was great for the team in as far as he brought a ton of attention thier way and put alot of pressure on the mini's which I think Robby's going to miss.

So I saw on the video 195 kph and Johnny said it was mated at 205 kph.......equates to 121 - 127 mph!

Haa.. I just asked SIRI…. it's 127.4mph WOW

I was thinking if Robby went that fast in the same last year dune in Iquique: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b688MtsIOqc

He made that run after he had withdrawn from the rally. IIRC the restrictor was also taken out. So I would guess he did not go that fast today. If you look close the numbers were removed.

I was glad to see that Nasser took the strategy of making a good show out of a bad situation, and I suspect Robby was OK with that too. I know there were times when he seemed like he had lost his patience with all the breaking of equipment that Nasser was doing, but if it served to throw the fear of God into the Mini drivers, to the point where they might push too hard as well, then perhaps the situation has served a purpose.

where is Nasser?

DNF

Nassars role seems a little like Robby's first year in the VW, The Rabbit to make all the others nervous!

I don't think Robby had any plan to use Nasser like that.

this year RG is playing cards.....not showing his hand till the end........any bets ?

I'll donate the $$$ to the planet......
