2014 Dakar Rally Stage 1 Robby Gordon Quotes
"I don't know what's going on. We drove it 1,000km down the highway, no problems during testing, but from the moment we started the special, we had vapor lock problems and we had to stop. Then, all the other fluids started to overheat, so we had to stop at least five or six times... At the end, we had stopped for the umpteenth time when competitor no. 390 hooked us up big time and offered to tow us to the end of the special."
"Honestly, it's strange,The car is running fine now, and I'm going to drive it away, but I don't know why this happened. It's weird. We'll have a look at it in the bivouac, although it's disappointing to lose two or three hours on the very first day of racing"

it's looking like BJ and Chichert and Hajas also had fuel pump/pressure/vapor locking issues today.
All LS engines
Interesting. Does this throw the new MoTeC gear into question?
I was wondering if it had anything to do with the LS engines!
where did you see this ?????
TimN, you asking me? Or, are you asking MK?
Darren Skilton posted it at RDC.I'll go with Darren's sources.
BJ's was a facebook posting by BJ
thanks
It would be interesting to see what happened to Chabot's SMG, isn't that an LS motor as well?
I'm gathering that the Gordini has at least one problem, and perhaps two.
(1) I'm hearing vapor lock. Or stated more broadly, a fuel delivery problem.
(2) Engine over heating.
It is possible that (2) is causing (1).
It is unlikely that (1) is causing (2).
Therefore it is possible that (2) is the only problem.
Pics of the car show a perforated panel located in the "window" openings behind the driver and passenger. My guess is that these are the outlet panels for the radiator airflow path. If this is true, then these panels need to go! These panels appear to be highly restrictive to air flow.
Put a panel like this on either side of the radiator in your Country Squire, and watch what happens. You'll overheat long before you start pulling Cajon Pass.
There! I fixed it!
