I think I did this last year and got razed, but since we are all waiting for the Dakar to start and could care less about New Years Eve, let's put out some Dakar predictions. Here are mine.
Robby's Finish -Top 3 if no breakdowns longer than 40 min. At least 3 stage wins. I think third year cars are the sweet spot and a top three heck top 5 this year would be great.
Winner if not Robby - Unfortunately Nassar because I don't think even he can break those Mini's.
Peugeot Debut - Win some stages but break downs hurt them. Oh and Cyril sees Coma broke down on his bike and runs him over since Cyril is complete a-hole.
Other Stuff -
- Live chat breaks and everyone complains.
- People complain about no reports from TOG. Everyone defends TOG.
- Tracking on Dakar.com sucks and we all go to http://trackingdakar.nl/ and still complain.
- People will not stop talking about Gordini #2.
- Everyone will call the HST Gordini a Hummer and it will make us all mad.
- Something will break and some backyard mechanic will question why the hell Robby developed the car that way, or have some duct taped way to fix it.
- We will all dream of the day we get to go down and follow the Dakar. My bucket list item (need the cash and the bike skills) - http://www.rideadv.com/motorcycle-tours/special-events-offers-in-mo...
- I will try to figure out how I am going to follow the Dakar like I want to during one of the busiest two weeks I have ever had work wise.
What do you guys have? Would love to hear TOG's about what he expects from the Planeteers.

This time, no big down hill in Iquique, route is diferent.
Bad fuel and overheating in at least one stage...but with Johnny as the co-pilot and his calming demeanor the Gordini proves to be a Dakar worthy machine...RG will drive the wheels off in stages 4 through 7 and win those stages of the race...Late race trouble slows the 2wd machine, but a podium finish is still managed....Oh and this year Team Speed locks horns with PeterPuffer's crew at the camp site, a couple black eyes, a busted nose, and crying Frenchmen everywhere are calling foul...Baja Bob gives the ASO a few t-shirts and everything is cool...
I believe the Gordini will perform well and GC will have a good run in the buggy until he bests the mini's which will struggle without someone that can lead and nasser has a fit. The Pug's will be fast in a straight line but struggle in the turns as I don't think the French have this style of setup figured out yet. The Pug looks like a 4wd with the front axles pulled out of it and large wheels bolted on.
Side note but has anyone seen the official Dakar trailer, is that a Pug in the video? Not that I'm saying there is any favoritism by a french run race towards a french owned team with 2/3 it's drivers being french, just making an observation. Lol
Was intended to be a joke!!
don't forget the 2X4 vs. 4X4 discussion
The real over-all time difference for several years has been more a function of reliability and accidents (flips, roll-overs etc.) than traction problems of 2wd vs. 4wd. The much superior suspension travel, larger diameter tire, and inflation control permitted by rule will likely result in greater overall better speed---and handling in the twisty bits---for 2wd. But reliability, as always, will trump outright speed. Mini deals with reliability issues by shear numbers---one of them will most likely survive. However I think reliability is now good in the 2wd efforts, and this Dakar should be a better comparison of the two approaches than ever before.
Predictions huh........He wins and the entire team stays in Chile to fish the Patagonia, where upon the idea is spawned, "Speed trolling" and the world record for Brown trout is broke.... predictions must have a realistic side to them i'd say
I say we just take it a day at a time. Stage at a time and finish this year :)
I agree, let's enjoy the ride!
Take what you can get. Hope for the Best, expect everything else.
