SAN MIGUEL DE TUCUMAN- SAN SALVADOR DE JUJUY

January 4th 2017

The rise in temperature and altitude will accompany a drastic change of scenery. With the first off-road sections, the riders and crews will head straight to the business at hand. The first real test in terms of endurance will also call for vigilance and lucidity when crossing the Rios. On the other hand, the trucks will be spared this final difficulty. This stage also features a Naturalization zone with an altitude of 6380meters ( 20931.76ft )

The situation is serious for Nasser Al-Attiyah who appears to have lost a wheel from his Hilux. The minutes are ticking by and the Qatari, who had perfectly started this year's Dakar, could lose any hope of outright victory.

Taxi!

The top 4 Toyotas all stopped on course today in the second half of the timed special. That's way too many to simply be a coincidence.

Rumors are it was fuel. Looks like that calculation isn't as simple as some would like us to believe.

same thing as RG & Sheldon last year?
First 7 , Diesel's , 9 of 12 . I think we called that, 6 months ago.
Diesels are going to be dominant in the Dakar, especially when you get into the high altitudes of the Andes

Looks like Nasser stopped again.

Stephane
Sainz
Loeb
If Carlos didn't have the issue at the beginning , he would have won this stage
Looks like the Peugeots are getting their act together. See how they are later in the Rally Raid, but at this stage looking good
Nasser has finished +2:17:38

He had a bad day
