Everyone will have the chance to take a photo in front of Lake Titicaca! The dunes to overcome early in the special stage will be just one of the challenges of this long day. The fastest will complete there running in daylight but for many, headlamps will be invaluable. Reaching the rest day in the Bolivian capital will be considered a success in itself.

Stage 4 from Jujuy to Tupiza was definitely not going to plan. Far from his usual form, exhausted by the altitude and struggling against adversity, Al-Rajhi decides enough is enough: the 11th-placed driver in 2016 announces his withdrawal at CP1 and heads straight to Tupiza. The organisers add him to the official list of abandons. 2017 Dakar over. However, after sleeping on the decision, Al-Rajhi feels ready to take the fight to his competitors and the elements again in the next stage. Al-Rajhi therefore starts the stage from Tupiza to Oruro thanks to a provision allowing him to challenge the previous day's decision. A brief stay of execution is granted, giving him the opportunity to finish 13th in the stage before learning in Oruro that his appeal has been rejected and that he is out of the race for good.
