Hi Tim,
Yes it is quiet when RG is not racing DAKAR.
These remind me of the Chevy powered Rolls-Royce from the 1981 Dakar.
All three are still in the rally (#340,#363,#373).
and these are LS powered
I had to read it twice. Wow
Problem with this Dakar, the country is not very conducive to much enthusiasm . Tough terrain, but SA is involved in a war, few people can gather in groups, not a great place to be in
06:52 The special is underway!
Pablo Quintanilla has got to grips with the day’s special, 3 minutes ahead of Toby Price and 6 minutes in front of Joan Barreda. The Chilean will have to open the way for the first time on the rally whilst also trying to regain time over Ricky Brabec, not an easy task!

10:06 Alonso rolls his car
Fernando Alonso has had an eventful start to the special, having put his car into a double roll after an accident in the first few kilometres. The Spanish driver’s Toyota does not seem too damaged, but his windscreen is broken, considerably impairing his visibility. He has been at a standstill for a while
10:44 Sainz strikes a major blow!
A delicate section of navigation after 200 km has caught out several competitors, including some of the favourites. Stéphane Peterhansel has lost almost 12 minutes to Carlos Sainz who chose the right direction. The situation is even worse for Nasser Al-Attiyah who spent a lot of time looking for the way-points and has still not completed 223 km.
10:59 Alonso loses more than an hour
Fernando Alonso has finally completed 87 km on the special. The Spaniard, who had returned to the top 10 in the general standings this morning, is now driving without a windscreen and has already lost more than one hour.
12:19 Sainz wins and gets some breathing space
Following the halt to the special after 223 km, Carlos Sainz has won stage 10 in front of Jakub Przygoński and Giniel de Villiers. The Mini driver has especially taken advantage of Stéphane Peterhansel’s and Nasser Al-Attiyah’s navigation problems to increase his lead in the general standings to 18 minutes over the two men.
12:48 Peterhansel: “We got lost with Al-Attiyah”
Stéphane Peterhansel has finished the special 11 minutes behind the winner after getting somewhat lost. “It was a dangerous stage with lots of difficult dunes. Several kilometres before the neutralised section, we got completely lost with Nasser [Al-Attiyah] and other drivers. Some drivers got there at the right time, when we eventually found the right way and gained a lot of time. In the end, it’s a good stage for my team-mate Carlos [Sainz] who has opened up a gap on Nasser, whilst we have got a bit closer to Nasser even if we are still in third position”.
