07:00 Super marathon

Featuring a 367 km special, the road to Neom offers an opportunity for those who came up short in the opener to stage a comeback. However, bikers and quad riders would be wise not to push their machines too hard in the first part of the 'super marathon' stage, which restricts elite riders to just 10 minutes of maintenance work at the end of the day.

09:00 Difficult start for Price and Brabec
It is not easy opening the way this morning in Saudi Arabia. Toby Price and Ricky Brabec have lost a lot of ground over the first kilometres, with 7’ and 5’40 lost respectively for the two men.

I would say they have navigation issues

13:40 Another episode in the saga of African triumph
After finishing 13th and as the best newcomer last year, Ross Branch has today won his first stage on the Dakar. In the history of the bike category, he is the first winner from Africa since the last in the series from South African Alfie Cox in 2003 (who picked up 8 specials in total), whilst Franco-Malian Alain Duclos won in his hometown of Bamako in 2006, then again in 2014 in Argentina. The continent has enjoyed other victories more recently in the quad race with Brian Baragwanath in 2016. It is especially represented at the highest level in the car race by Giniel de Villiers, who won the rally in 2009 and picked up his 14th special stage victory in 2018.
09:57 Big losses for Price
Toby Price, this morning’s leader of the general standings, is experiencing a very complicated beginning to the day’s special. The Australian has found it difficult to open the way and already trails Joan Barreda by 13’31. Ricky Brabec, who set off just after him, has also lost 10 minutes to the Spaniard, whilst Matthias Walkner lies 7 minutes behind.

11:06 Toyota dominant
Yazeed Al Rajhi continues to lead after 104 km of the special. The Toyota driver leads three other cars made by the Japanese constructor, driven by Nasser Al-Attiyah, Giniel de Villiers and Fernando Alonso! 11:42 Alonso grinds to a halt
Fernando Alonso has been at a standstill after 160 km of the special for almost 20 minutes, a pity for the Spanish driver taking part in his first Dakar who was in fourth place after 100 km of the special.
2:07 Al-Attiyah, Ten Brinke, Vaidotas and Peterhansel all distanced
The situation does not look good for the elite in the general standings in the face of Yazeed Al Rajhi’s sparkling performance. General standings leader Vaidotas Zala lags behind the leader of the special by 16 minutes after 214 km, just like the second placed driver this morning Stéphane Peterhansel. Nasser Al-Attiyah and Bernhard Ten Brinke, who were respectively 4th and 5th in the general standings this morning, are also more than a quarter of an hour behind, whilst Carlos Sainz has lost 10 minutes to the Saudi driver.
12:54 Al Rajhi soaring ahead
Yazeed Al Rajhi is continuing to heap on the pressure with the aim of taking a maximum amount of time out of his rivals. The Saudi driver now leads Giniel de Villiers by 6 minutes after 264 km and Vladimir Vasilyev by 7’18 sur. Peterhansel now trails the stage leader by 16’19, Al-Attiyah by 17’22 and Zala by 23’29!
13:58 De Villiers pips everyone at the post
Giniel de Villiers has won his first stage victory on the Dakar in Saudi Arabia thanks to a faultless special, whereas most of his rivals struggled with the complicated navigation. The South African took advantage of a mistake by long time stage leader Yazeed Al-Rajhi in the last few kilometres to triumph, almost 4 minutes in front of Orlando Terranova.
14:04 Terranova takes over the general standings lead
Orlando Terranova, with sixth position yesterday and second today, has shown that consistency pays. The Argentinean managed to avoid any major mishaps and has taken the lead in the general standings in Neom, with a lead of almost 5 minutes over Carlos Sainz. Nasser Al-Attiyah is still in touch 6 minutes behind, but Stéphane Peterhansel already trails the rally leader by 13 minutes after two days of racing.
14:31 Alonso’s on the move again!
Forced to wait for his assistance team after breaking a wheel, Fernando Alonso has finally resumed racing. However, the Toyota driver has lost 2 hours and 30 minutes due to this mishap, a major blow to his hopes.

only the top 5 are within 10mins of the overall.
