January 5th, the Rally Raid starts in Alula, Saudi Arabia and races South East before racing to the North to the city of Yanbu.

Sara Price was third in the general rankings at the start of stage 9, 12 minutes behind Xavier de Soultrait, but she has lost more than a quarter of an hour to the Frenchman after 303 km. With the mechanical problems suffered by João Ferreira at the start of the special and Price’s time losses, ‘XDS’ could reap the rewards of his rivals’ mishaps at the finish.

Ricky Brabec has grabbed his first stage win in this Dakar and extended his overall lead over Ross Branch, who came in seventh at 3′45″. Nacho Cornejo was second at 2 seconds and Adrien Van Beveren third at 20. VBA escorted Brabec at the front of the race today, a task that will fall upon Nacho tomorrow. Sherco's Indian Rally 2 rider, Harith Noah, took a career-best fifth place in the stage.
