Everyone knows Dodge is backing out of the Truck series. It appears now Dodge will effect Nascar in other levels too. What this means for GEM is no additional money and perhaps even less support. Dodge stopped their primary sponsorship with GEM two years ago (estimated nearly $35 million per year between the 2 Dodge Dealer cars). With support unable to increase and compete with Toyota, Dodge could be facing another departure from Nascar.

GEM is looking to buy BDR & their Triad Engine shop. GEM plans to switch to Toyota with this deal. BDR would keep his Truck operation and switch his Cup program to a Nationwide program. GEM would take over the Triad and build all of BDR's engines along with GEM's teams.

The biggest attraction of BDR's team is the Triad engine shop. GEM could continue to build their own engines and become a large Toyota engine supplier.

Ganassi has appeared to run from the Dodge camp by switching to Toyota via MWR. The merger would allow MWR support and sponsorship to continue all 3 current teams and add Ganassi's #42 and driver Juan Pablo Montoya.

The Dodge teams have seen this coming, Ryan Newman even stated that the current status of Dodge and their lack of future commintment contributed to his decision to leave Penske.

Referring to GEM, Robby has stated, "They have a better deal and they think they can get out of the agreement." I guess we'll let a judge decide, if it ever goes to court. If GEM can agree to assume BDR & their Triad shop, settling with Gordon might be easier for GEM. If GEM agrees to terms with BDR before a court hearing, it would be very damaging for GEM's case. Look for a settlement.

With only Petty and Penske, Dodge will likely do all they can to keep these two teams, including sponsorship (Petty's #45) if necessary. Unless RGM decides to stay with Dodge. This would allow RGM to actually gain more support than he's currently getting. Since RGM doesn't build in-house Dodge engines, Penske (Jasper) would likely supply RGM for Dodge.

Jack Roush was very vocal that if Nascar allowed Toyota to race in Nascar's series it would strangel Ford, Chevy & Dodge. Roush insisted Toyota had deeper pockets and it would hold an unfair advantage over the other manufacturers. It would force Chevy & Ford to form alliance teams and would probably force Dodge out! So far it appears Roush was correct. Chevy & Ford have started forming super teams (Roush-Yates & Wood Bros for Ford and RCR-DEI, Hendrick-Stewart/Haas for Chevy).

It's no suprise Dodge teams are heading for Toyota. Toyota has 3 teams in the Chase, and only 1 team just outside the Top 35 in it's sophmore season.

The only Toyota defector has been Tony Stewart. Only time will tell if Tony made a bad decision.

The CEO of the "new Chrsler" is Bob Nardelli formerly CEO at Home Depot and they didnt seem to have any problems spending lots of money with NASCAR.
Nardelli answers to Cerberus' CEO Stephen Feinberg, an ex-junk bond dealer with Drexel, and chairman John Snow, former U.S. Secretary of the Treasury. Unlike Home Depot, Chrysler is is but one of 35 corporations in Cerberus' portfolio. Bob Nardelli may not have any problem with spending money in NASCAR, but he's not signing the checks anymore.
Dont think just because Dodge is pulling out of the Truck series that Dodge is going away. I just read an article by Mike Mulhern about the state of NASCAR and CUP. It mentions small teams like RGM and Petty's.

And a good part of the article is part of an interview Mike did with Roush's Geoff Smith. Geoff talks about how Ford might pull out of the Truck series next year too! He said the only reason Dodge and Toyota went to the Truck series is because NASCAR made them do so, before they could come to CUP.

Here are some parts of the article. You can click the link to see the whole article.

Smith say's, "Roush and Ford may well follow Dodge’s lead and not field any Trucks next season, which would be a major blow to the NASCAR series."
“We have always made an investment in the Truck series,” Smith says. “In fact we have put 29 teams on the track over the course of the Truck series (since 1995). Bill Davis has had 16 Trucks teams. But the rest of the car owners have had only a small presence.
“And each of those 29 teams we have underwritten.
“However our ability to maintain a presence is going to be significantly challenged, as we face this escalation in costs and drop in revenue. And I don’t know how that is going to play out.”

The Truck series, Smith says, is simply not a viable stand-on-its-own business, even now.
“This is what happened with the Truck series,” Smith says: “When Dodge wanted to come into NASCAR, NASCAR put a ‘tax’ on Dodge (requiring it to run Trucks before stepping up to Cup). There were good reasons….to put more investment into the Truck series.
“But what happened was the investment level of Dodge was higher than every other manufacturer…..so what teams did was compete with price on their sponsorships.
“I remember very well going into a meeting with a major corporation, with Joe Ruttman. They said ‘We love you guys. This is a great program. But what can we do – the Dodge program is 25 percent the cost of your program.’
“I told Jack right then that Dodge is not only spending more money (on tech stuff) but is now taking sponsorships away from us by underwriting them, discounting the sponsorships. So we have even less.
“We watched that with Dodge. And then Toyota came in….”
Toyota is not only dominating the Cup tour this season but also the Truck and Nationwide series.
“So right now do we want to double-down on Trucks?” Smith asks pointedly. “Even more than double-down—because we’re going to be losing revenue by having to drop that fifth Cup team, thanks to NASCAR.
“So our ability to keep playing in this Truck series is really threatened.”
If Ford follows Dodge in pulling out of Trucks, would GM officials be willing to continue playing that marketing game against just Toyota?

Dodge official: Gillett Evernham Motorsports is staying with manufacturer

Dodge Motorsports officials say published reports that Gillett Evernham Motorsports could move to another manufacturer next season are "pure speculation."

Mike Delahanty, senior manager for Dodge Motorsports programs, joined a national NASCAR teleconference Tuesday to address the report that appeared on Fox Sports, saying that GEM could join ranks with Bill Davis Racing and switch to Toyota next season.

"I just want to respond to these recent reports regarding Gillett Evernham Motorsports, specifically regarding Bill Davis Racing and the
speculation that GEM would leave Dodge," he said. "It's nothing but pure speculation. Dodge and Gillett Evernham have a long history that dates back to our return to Sprint Cup racing. Dodge and GEM have a long-term contract in place, and we plan to continue as partners in NASCAR.
there is more...

"Q: WHAT ABOUT DODGE'S COMMITMENT TO MOTORSPORTS...HAS IT CHANGED?

MD: I don't know how many times we have to keep saying it, but we are committed....we have long-term contracts in place...not only with Gillett Evernham, but with Penske Racing...with Petty (Enterprises) and with Chip Ganassi Racing. We're committed to the sport. We're committed to these guys...I don't know how many times we have to repeat it. "

No mention of Robby.

CERBERUS controls everything... if they pull the plug there's nothing the racing guys can do or say.
I think the reason they dont mention Robby or RGM is because RGM does not have a direct contract with Dodge. RGM's Dodge connection is because of his affiliation with GEM.

I believe its the same way HOF was with Gibbs, when Gibbs was with Chevy. HOF did not have a direct contract or factory support with Chevy. Their support was from Gibbs. Thats why when Gibbs left to go to Toyota HOF was sort of in limbo, as they did not know if Chevy would pick them up or if Gibbs would continue to support them if they too made the move to Toyota.

Also I would think Dodge would fight really hard not to let GEM out of their Dodge contract. The reason being is you only have three company's building Dodge motors. 1 is GEM, and they build motors for their 3 teams, Petty's 2 teams, RGM's 1 team and when BAM was running Dodge their last few races were on GEM power. Then you have Penske/Jasper who build their own motors for their own 3 teams only. Ganassi is using Ernie Elliott power and BAM was using them before leaving to GEM as they were looking for better performance.

So if GEM pulls out of Dodge then who builds motors for the Dodge teams? Unless Dodge approaches Penske and forces him to build motors for other teams the only builder left is an independent builder named Ernie Elliott Inc. who only does motors for Gannassi and has no real ties to any teams. I dont know if Dodge would want that to happen.
I still believe that DODGE will have the rug pulled out by CERBERUS.
The racing guys may be oblivious or in denial about the over-all situation at CHRYSLER.
