Deal With Coca Cola Keeps (Pepsi's) AMP Energy and Mountain Dew Out As Dega Sponsor
Talladega Superspeedway officials announced on Tuesday that the fall NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race will be sponsored by Coca-Cola. Fred's Super Dollar stores will be a secondary sponsor.
Talladega lost its sponsors for the fall Sprint Cup and Truck Series races last year when parent company International Speedway Corp. made a deal with Coke to be ISC's official soft drink.
That meant that the old sponsor of the Cup race -- AMP Energy -- and the truck race -- Mountain Dew -- could not renew because both are Pepsi products.
Tuesday's announcement means the Oct. 22 truck race will be the Coca-Cola 250 Powered by Fred's. The Cup race remains unsponsored and will be called the Talladega 500 if a sponsor isn't lined up before then.
"This is Coca-Cola's first year as the Official Soft Drink of Talladega Superspeedway and for them to step up and sponsor a race speaks volumes to the strength of the Talladega brand and the loyalty of our thousands of fans," said Talladega Superspeedway Chairman Grant Lynch. "We look forward to continuing this great partnership between our two companies."
This year the race weekend has been moved up a week earlier to Oct. 21-23 to get away from Halloween weekend.
Another stupid "Exclusive" sponsorship deal.
