Are the 2011 Hummers completely built new from the ground up?......If so, where do RGM's Hummers from all the previous Dakar Rallys end up?........Just curious. I want to buy a used one as soon as I have an extra $1,000,000 in my pocket.

from what I have seen on here, repaired, updated older hummers
(Not to make sound like a 57 chevy, but last years hummer 2010, 2009, 2008 are the years I can recall RG using Hummers)

The real question.......wheres the 3rd one parked at...... and who makes those bdass hummer bodys
Refreshed and updated. They changed the approach angle on the front chassis and noses to help in the dunes...
Here is what I know or remember about how the Hummer body came about. The first Hummer body was based off of Robby's old Red Bull TT Chevy body's. A sawzall, plywood, fiberglass and the help of Chip Foose made the first Hummer body. (see pictures below) Then the next year Robby got more tech support from GM and that included wind tunnel and strait line testing. This helped a bunch and then I believe the body's were built at Menard Engineering in the UK. The following year Robby shortened and narrowed the Hummer and the body was again massaged to pretty much what you see now. I dont know if Menard Engineering was part of that or if Robby had Dan Gurney's All American Racers manufacturing facility in Santa Ana make them. I was told D.G's All American Racers composite's department had done some stuff for RG's Dakar program. I think the carbon fiber dashes and a few other parts on the Cup team, RG had D.G's AMR do also.

If I'm wrong I'm sure someone can correct me on or add more details.

Also if you notice the concept proposal drawing you can see what tire brand RG was originally in talks with before Toyo signed up. This picture was courtesy of Fly a year or two back.

That's some good history. Thanks for that NIKAL.
Very cool NIKAL, thanks

I never said you could post that last one.....

Haha.  Fly long time no talk.  Hows the mansion?

Hey Bri, Mansion is good....

Fly I did not think it would be an issue on PR. I figured since you posted it on RDC during last years Dakar that it was OK to show the RG fans.

Fly if you really want it down have TOG or WJM edit my post and pull the picture

Very Cool.....Thanks

So the red bull body was placed on a buggy chassis for the construction on the humor body.

That's why guys on RCD call it the humbuggy, I see now

The original Dakar Hummer was built off of a class 1 car that RG Off-Road built for Cam Theriot. Cam ran the car for about two years and then sold it back to RG. RG thought it would be a good platform and starting point. So this is why it has been called a Hummbuggy. Its is a true buggy designed car with a Hummer body on it.

Here is a picture of the car.
