Some quotes from the Kingsport Times News from and interview with Jeff Burton.

"The whole single car argument is romantic, but the reality of the situation is that our sport is much better off with 10 or 11 4 car team owners."

"It (multicar teams) provides security for the sponsors and it enables you to really economize and do things less expensively. The sponsors are more protected by being part of a four car or three car organization than they are by being part a single-car organization."

"What used to be a half million-doller buisness is now a $100 million buisness. We can't ask sponsors to spend the money that they're spending and not even know they are in the race."

"It is way better off for the sport if we had 43 teams that knew they were going to be in the race than to have 50 teams trying to make the race- we don't need 50 teams, we need 43."

I thought this might interesting considering RGM is a single car entity. What's everyone's take? Is Jeff Burton full of it or does he have a point?

I think the opposite should occur. The big multicar teams are what I believe is wrong with the sport. There should be a limit of three cars per team. I have questions about Jeff's idea:
Would there be a panel to select who gets to race and who doesn't?
Would we have a preseason draft?
How in the world would this be good?
Would they base it on marketability?
Next, he will franchise fans, you will have to state your favorite driver, only sit in the designated area of the track for your driver and only get angry when something on the track affects your driver. And you won't be able to boo whenever Nascar throws a mystery caution for Junior, Jimmie or any member of a multicar team.
Burton is not talking about rgm. But he sould not dog the sponsors of go or go home teams. The go or go home teams are already having a hard time getting sponsors and that asshole is pretty much telling there sonsors there wasting thare money. I hope Todd Bodine spins him out now that he said this.
Yes, he is talking about RGM
No he said "......team that knew they were going to be in the race...." when was the last time RGM didn't qualify for a race?
The entire point of Jeff Burtons comments were to attack single car teams and their struggles to atract sponsors for the sport.

Read it again. Teams like RGM were EXACTLY who Burton had in mind.
I have to pipe in and say that I think he is talking about RGM. Not only is Jeff Burton a blowhard, he has always had an attitude about Robby. I think this is a direct comment about RG and aimed right at him. Who the hell does Burton think he is? He is always shooting his mouth off. Maybe those kinds of comments would hold more weight coming from a champion, someone like Jeff Gordon (cringe) or Tony Stewart.

I think Burton is just another branch of Na$car - he's their mouthpiece! Ass-kisser with a capital "A"!!!! (Please excuse my unlady-like language - it comes out when I am provoked!)
He is absolutely talking about teams like RGM, but people here want to over analyze each word and look for something separates RGM and allows them stand apart in this discussion.

If I had to bet, I'd wager that RGM was actually THE FIRST team on Burtons mind when he made his comments.
How can anyone say he is not talking about RGM or any other 1 (or 2) car teams? He made a blanket statement saying he believes that 10-11 4-car teams would be much better for the sport. Where does it say except for Robby Gordon Motorsports? It is also obvious he does not believe there should be any competition to enter a race, it should be set by only having 43 cars show up every week.
Exactly.

He basically wants franchises for HMS, Rousch, RCR......

RGM is exactly the kind of operation he is attacking and saying doesn't belong.
It has been a slow news week.
Should have interviewed Ward Burton, I love to hear him talk. It doesn't matter what Ward says it is always entertaining. I miss Ward. He should replace DW
"it's romantic", what a tool. Was he sitting on Helton's lap when he said this?
