All the talk at Phoenix this weekend it that Penske is trying to buy RGM...RG and Sam will run Toyota's in 2010 in an effort make a total switch to Toyota in 2011.
Another rumor or story that i've heard a couple of times this weekend is that Mobil 1 wants to sponsor a Double-Duty effort for RG and Sam...this sounds crazy and I'm not sure if it's even possible...but Mobil 1 wants to take the oil out of the Indycars and have RG and Sam hand carry the oil to charlotte and put that same oil in the Sprint Cup cars...???
I'm all for it. I love Robby running his own team but I'd rather have him team up with Penske and get some good results. He has been struggling as a team owner. As a Robby fan I want to see him on the track not missing races.
One interesting note. If you look at Sam Hornish's page on Nascar.com, they have on the AAA diecast on display, no Mobile 1 car. Could AAA be sponsoring Sam fulltime in 2010 with Mobile 1 moving to the 7 (if this happens)?
We shouldn't take any rumors seriously right now, all of this speculating is fun but if nothing good happens we're setting ourselves up for a big disappointment.
Bad Bad BAD idea. Robby will be out of NASCAR after 2010 if this goes through. Allgaier will take over and then what? Maybe Roger will let Robby drive his Indy car full time after that with select road course races??
He's out of Nascar in April if he doesn't do this. Besides, who's to say that Sam Hornish wouldn't be the odd man out next year. In the same equipment, Robby would own Sam.
Who knows if this would happen. I personally hope it does but I won't believe it until I see it. All this speculation sure is a lot of fun though.
Penske's shop is set up for a 4 car team. Right now the 4 cars are 2,12,77 cup and 12 Nationwide. It is an incredible place. A fourth cup car would push out the 12 Nationwide, plus they are committed to run 2 Nationwide cars next year. maybe RGM becomes the Nationwide shop.
