I'm sure there are a few that "could" do it. There were 250 plus entries this year in the cars. The question is could they be competitive? I would give my nod to Jimme Johnson, Casey Mears, Tony Stewart. Would we ever see Jeff Gordon or Dale Jr.? Highly doubt it.
Short answer is hell no... Not like RG does
Simple answer? Step into an existing team... A lot of them could but the desert would eat them for lunch. Especally after day 5.
You have to be able to actually "work" on the vehicle and that would limit quite a few guys. The Biff could, Stewart could. If I could have a "dream pick" it would have been A.J. Foyt! That man could drive and work on anything, just like Robby. Another good talent that in my opinion kind of let life get the best of him is Little Al (Unser).
All these are people that in the right time and place could have run this race and had an excellent showing!
How many IRL guys you think could pull this off??? LOL
When I first became an RG fan, I remember Dave Despain was talking about him on one of the ESPN hour specials. It was the race he had Ema (I think that was the name) and he broke his front spindle. While referring to Indy star Robby Gordon, he said "Robby could be staying in nice hotels and eating at nice restaurants with the rest of the Indy Car gentry.... ".
Pretty much summed up why no other NASCAR (traded for Indy Car) star would do a Dakar, let alone a SCORE race.
Jimmie Johnson is supposed to be a great road racer, I assume he can do it. Not at a RG level though.
I dont think Jimmie would do it. He wouldnt want to get dirty, besides that, who would wax his eye brows or keep track of his hair transplants?
You have any idea what JJ started his racing career in? I'm guessing no...
Carl Edwards...... at least from an endurace point of view.
