GANASSI LOOKING AROUND?

Speculation was wide-open throughout the weekend that owner Chip Ganassi is looking to switch from Chevrolet to another manufacturer, most likely Toyota. Ganassi, co-owner of Earnhardt Ganassi Racing, has enjoyed some success with Toyota in sports-car racing, and the manufacturer likely would welcome him. There is even talk that EGR might merge with Team Red Bull.

Per Nascar Roundup after Texas - Ganassi is concerned with Chevrolet dropping it's support in 2010 of EGR will put his team at a strong disadvantage. Ganassi would like to look at joining a Toyota team with room. Joe Gibbs Racing, Red Bull Racing & Robby Gordon Motorsports are all three supported by Toyota with room under Nascar's cap. JGR has stated they would be open to supporting a satellite team like they did in 2008 with Hall of Fame Racing, but doubtful they would be interested in adding a 4th team in 2010. Red Bull Racing finalized their 2010 with Jay Frye a few months ago, but might entertain adding a team like Montoya's. Robby Gordon desperately wants to add a 2nd team for 2010 and has recently been in talks with Bobby Labonte, adding Ganassi and a driver like Montoya with sponsorship secured could be a huge boost for Gordon's organization.

Would have to wonder how long that is for. Chip has always been smart enough to move where the support is. He has a strong relationship with Toyota from their days in CART/IRL, as well as Grand-Am.

Seemed pretty late to be looking to make a change for 2010, but might be reasonable for a 2011 change or something mid-season if EGR falls off next year.
Ganassi made a powerplay, according to the article Chevy was camped out in front of the 42 hauler all weekend. Good for Ganassi. Chevy should support their efforts considering they're the only Chevy in the Top 6 that's not Hendrick. RCR failing to get one of it's 4 cars into the Chase shows how far they dropped. Harvick is the disease for that whole organization. He's a good driver, but he is nothing but drama. Burton & Bowyer need a solid new teammate.
