Richard Petty Motorsports’ #10, which is turning into the #44 driven by AJ Allmendinger. Allmendinger, who originally thought he was going to be in the 500 and now most likely won’t be locked in, also could lose a spot in the Budweiser Shootout if Hornish can get top-35 points and be one of the top six Dodges in the field. Word is Hornish will take over points from the #22 Bill Davis Racing team. Which means Davis will have to have interest or ownership in the #77 team.

Several owners with points are working last minute deals to transfer points to other teams. The only sticking point is they must have an interest or ownership of the team they transfer points to and can not own more than 4 teams + 1 aspiring rookie.

Bill Davis & Earnhardt Ganassi are holding the cards right now.

THAT CAN CHANGE...AND IT WILL
look a the lone 08 in the feild.
No, not just you. That seems to be the consensus among a lot of the fans from what I've read around the 'net.

That's what happens when you try to mix two different beers I guess.
I know. There are a million different ways to re-format this race that does not involve poles, since that seems to be the reason for the change in the first place. I think there should be no more than 20 drivers in the field. Why not just have a series of heat races like on a Saturday night late model race? Top 3 cars advance to the Shootout finale. That way everyone races at some point during the night and the final round will have an interesting mix of favorites and upstarts.
The shoot-out is BS.

Doesn't Triad Racing own the Bill Davis team, and it's points? With Mayfield committing to a full seaon with a full sponsor, maybe there's a deal to be worked out there for his #41? He is buying engines/chassis from Triad, it would make sense for them to help him buy more equipment by running more races.

EDIT- Just saw the update from Jayski- Penske Buys the whole outfit.
Where do you see that Penske bought whole company?

Per jayski.com

Penske buys the #22, Davis a minority owner: Bill Davis is now a minority owner in Penske Racing. Penske has acquired Davis' #22 and will keep the number for further consideration to align with the #2 and #12. But for now, the #77 Mobil 1 Dodge driven by Sam Hornish Jr. will take the 22's owner points and start the 2009 season 31st, which guarantees it a position in the Daytona 500. "As a business person, you have to look at what your options are," Penske said by phone Tuesday. "I think the key thing right now is it's too bad that anyone who has run a full season whether they're in the top 35 or not — and I don't mean the ones that run a half season — but if you run the full season last year, every car in every race, you hope you would be given some kind of priority."(FoxSports)

Now my question is how could Bill Davis sell the or partner with Penske with the #22 points? Bill Davis does not own BDR or the #22.

Per jayski.com

Bill Davis Sells Team: UPDATE Triad Racing Technologies announced that the company will acquire Triad Racing Development, a major supplier of engines, chassis and bodies for NASCAR Camping World, Nationwide and Sprint Cup Series teams. In addition to the acquisition of Triad Racing Development, the owners also purchased a majority interest in Bill Davis Racing. "This is an exciting time for us," said Marty Gaunt, co-owner of TRT. "With the changing economic landscape, we see this as an opportunity to service existing Toyota teams and build the business by providing cost effective engine support and chassis production to all racing teams regardless of manufacturer association." Gaunt along with business partner, Michael Held, entered into the agreement to purchase Triad this week. With more than 40 years combined motorsports experience, Gaunt and Held will provide management of the company effective immediately. Gaunt and Held both return to the ownership role, having spent time as NASCAR team owners. A California businessman, Held also owns Co-Pilott, LLC, a marketing company that services a number of clients in the motorsports arena. An announcement regarding the Bill Davis Racing Sprint Cup and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series operations, as well as detailed team plans for the 2009 race season, will be made in the coming weeks.(Triad/Co-Pilott PR)(12-22-2008)
UPDATE: New Bill Davis Racing majority owners Marty Gaunt and Mike Held say they hope to have the #22 Sprint Cup car on the track in 2009 but likely won’t be able to announce firm plans for another few weeks. Gaunt [said] that Mark Chambers will remain as general manager with other leadership positions at BDR to be determined in the next few weeks. Bill Davis will be available as a consultant, Gaunt indicated. (12-22-2008)

So my question again is how could Bill Davis sell or partner with Penske? If anything it should be Triad with Marty and Mike partnering with Penske. Now here is my guess, Triad wanted to get something for there investment in buying the BDR #22 team. So since Bill Davis is still on as a consultant, Marty and Mike use Bill as there front man so they dont look like they are partnering with any one team or manufacture as Triad is going to be making chassis and offering engine support to all manufactures. Thus the cash flow will work its way back to Triad, Marty and Mike threw Bill Davis.
Penske just bought the number and last year's owner points. That's it. TRT is still doing their thing.
It certainly looks that way Lance. But NASCAR has always said car numbers and owners points could not be sold. The whole race operation, yes, but not just the parts.
Penske sort of bought the #22...lol..Bill Davis technically "bought into" Penske. Penske made Bill Davis a minority Owner in his compnay..... It just so happens that the minority Owner happens to own Owner Points that were in the top 35 and is under the Penske Umbrella now.....abenefit of giving up part ownership in your company

and Nascar's sordid little world goes round and round....
you sound like a damn lawyer..lol..
