Its never easy... (look whos in the 84 car at Homestead)

"Martin in the #84 at Homestead: Monday [11-10-2008] on “SIRIUS Speedway” on SIRIUS NASCAR Radio, host Dave Moody is reporting that Mark Martin will drive the #84 Red Bull Toyota this weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway, replacing Scott Speed. Host, Dave Moody: “Since taking over for the released AJ Allmendinger four races ago, Speed has recorded an average finish of 34.2, including a 40th yesterday in Phoenix. The team has fallen out of the Top-35 in owners’ points now. They now trail the Michael Waltrip Motorsports #47 team by 16 points with one race to go in the battle for that all important 35th position in the owner standings. An official announcement is expected from the team later this afternoon. Mark Martin, of course, enjoys a long relationship with Red Bull Racing general manager Jay Frye, for whom he drove at the former MB3 and Ginn Racing teams. He ran his final scheduled event for Dale Earnhardt, Inc. yesterday in Phoenix. He, of course, will move to Hendrick Motorsports full time in 2009. His arrangement with Red Bull Racing is, we are told, for one race only and will have no impact on the team's long term plans for Scott Speed.(SIRIUS XM Radio PR)(11-10-2008)"

RGM hopefully has their crap together for Homestead. This could get ugly...

and RG will go back to the IRL next season also
Then you're foolish and haven't noticed the improvements at Red Bull Racing over the last year. Is DEI top equipment? Hardly, but Mark Martin has still scored more points in 24 races than RG has 35.
This is not official yet. I find it hard to believe that Chevy will not have a problem with this.
Lance and Partman are clowns!

Get a life and quit worrying!
You're a clown. Quit torquing your wrench and mind you own business.
I believe that we will be fine for the top 35, but if not, I have to say that if we can't finish ahead of the 84,47, 77 ect. in points, then we do not deserve to be in the top 35. We will have had 36 races to put some distance between us and them, if we cant do it.....so be it. That said we will be just fine.
Robby has more hunger and more drive to stay in the top 35. I believe 100% that he will stay in. Robby has done very well this season with the odds against him and his back to the wall.
I agree, I look for Robby to pull it off by beating both the #84 and the #47.

Robby has an average finish of 27th and a high of 14th. The only problem is, other than his 14th place finish, he's been between 2-5 laps down (along with most) in his previous other races at Homestead... but....

I have a good feeling though, the TTCOT will be ready. Crew will be ready. and his fans will be cheering him on. I predict an okay qualifying spot 24th, and a finish of 19th (1 lap down). Ends the year in 34th place in owner points, the #84 moves ahead of the #47 into 35th and the Ol' Kangaroo ain't happy (gets collected in a wreck by the #70 or #78).

The following week RGM announces Jim Beam will return for 2009. All is well at Gordonville USA...now Robby can go play in the dirt!
I have been a Martin fan since I was a kid. He is arguably the most talented driver out there, show me another driver at his age that can be as competitive as him. He got screwed out of two championships and never lost his fire like Jarrett, Rudd, and some others did. He is just as talented as Robby, that should have been a lesson learned in IROC, CTS or Prelude.

As far as him running in poor equipment he has been getting 2nd rate DEI cars for a few weeks now. Or did you think Paul Menard just started to tear it up? This deal was setup weeks ago, its been approved by all parties involved. It just went public now for the sake of Scott Speed feelings and ego more or less. Hendrick elected to not put Mark in the #5, which was the plan, and DEI let him leave one race early.

Mark ran in ultra poor equipment in 2001 and 2003. Roush really had issues adapting to Taurus body changes those two seasons, in 2003 he ran into major sponsor issues aswell. In 03 he still managed to nearly win Pocono, and still ran mid pack all along the way those two seasons. In 2002 he nearly won the championship, but got screwed over a spring penalty along the way. Not to mention the steering monster on the Dega pace lap.

He is going to one of his best tracks, he nearly won the race in 2005, fell about 5 feet short of Biffle at the line.
Did everybody here fall asleep on the fact that Toyota's still have more HP than anything out there?
Better hope Ambrose has problems. For some reason, I still feel like Robby pulls it off, but its going to be alot taller of an order now. Gas On. Wall Off.

Just another stop on the never-ending retirement tour.
Why should Martin retire? He's better at 50 than most of the guys half his age.
This is all around bad. The Red Bull cars are constantly improving. Mark Martin knows what he is doing, and knows that he was hired for one purpose, to get that car in the top 35. Falling out of the top 35 would be devestating for RGM, regardless of how some people here want you to believe things are all sunshine and lollipops because some off road people are coming to the NASCAR shop. Sponsors aren't falling out of the sky for RGM and while I know that Jim Beam is "all but done" and has been for the last nine months or so according to certian people, RGM really has to keep the car in the top 35 to keep things going. They'll be in a world of shit otherwise.
