STAGE 11 TRACKING

STAGE 11: Arica > Arequipa

Connection 120km | Special Stage 478km | Total 598km

COURSE OVERVIEW

For the Dakar's first day in their country, Peruvians will be entitled to two special stages and additional kilometres for the motorcyclists. After a day spent switching between off-piste sections and areas interspersed with rivers, they will benefit from a moment of camaraderie?: a specific bivouac will be set up for them before they continue exploring Peru. The concept, which had not been tried out again since the camp of Foum Zguid in Morocco during the 2007 Dakar, will also create a major obstacle which will affect the management of the race. The assistance vehicles will not be authorized in the maintenance area, where only the motorcyclists and quad riders will be able to help each other.

Or fuss at Adobe for not making thier platform secure. Plenty of blame to go around.

@WP7, 01:15:23 back. Still 4th in the overall at this point.

01:13:49 back at WP8. Trails DeVilliers by 23 min, or so, to put RG 4th in the overall.

Podium still possible and who knows the minis can still have issues or make mistakes

So between WP7 and WP8 he made up almost 2 minutes on the leaders? If so it appears the Hummer is ok.

plus he has a lot more vehicles to deal with now

As good as the MINIs have been, three(most likely two) stages left for some much needed trouble. RG just might get that chance for a personal visit with SP.

Not likely to be in physical proximity with Peterhansel tomorrow, as RG will be starting behind a lot of cars based on todays stage finish. Hoping for Mini trouble in the days to come.

Yes, it would seem that it's ok.

But what I don't understand is that all of Robby's time loss was on an intermediate (and I thought non-timed) stage between WPs 4 and 5. At WP 4, he was 6:02 behind, in 3rd place. At WP5, he dropped to 24th, 1:11:28 behind. Supposedly he stopped at a "hamlet" (maybe for a ham & cheese sandwich?) and remained there for over an hour.

I'm still trying to figger out what happened there.

Yes, I wish someone could clarify the rules for the "neutralized" sections. How is it possible to gain/lose time on an untimed section?

you have to be at your next start time on time, If not the clock starts when you were supposed to leave. In other words you have a set start time and if you miss it you get time added plus maybe a penalty on top of it.
You can be early but if you break the speed limit on the "non" timed zone you will be penalized also.

It now becomes a test session.
