STAGE 2 TRACKING

STAGE 2: VILLA CARLOS PAZ > SAN JUAN

Connection 107km | Special Stage 518km | Total 625km

COURSE OVERVIEW

Any rest will be short-lived, because before reaching San Juan, the competitors will have a particularly busy schedule: quite simply the longest special stage in the rally, which is varied enough to unsettle even the most experienced of drivers. Hard terrain at the start of the race will be followed by dusty sections in the middle of the day and a sandy stretch to finish. This is the first real test, which can only be successfully overcome through constant vigilance.

The GREEN section of the route is the connection , the RED is the Special Section of the stage.

So weres nasser? i see robby gone through another cp on pace

Nasser went through CP1 in first ahead by 26 seconds, just not being tracked at the Way Points (per http://www.trackingdakar.nl/live.php)

Didn't record through WP4 - 6 and didn't track at CP2 either so not sure.. May just be responder issues..

Live comments just stated
12:02 Cars: Leeroy toughing it out with the big boys 33rd on his first Dakar, Poulter Leeroy is putting in a fine performance at the start of the rally. The South African reached CP2 in 3rd position behind the wheel of his Toyota Hilux, 1’23 behind Al-Attiyah
so there is that...

Stage 2 UPDATE

Robby Gordon has passed through KM152 of 518 (CP2) and is now 49 minutes behind. Next update at KM185. #TeamSPEED

Dakar posted that RG had an issue with overheating brakes, that's what cost him the lost time.

did chat go down?

Yes keep hitting refresh
Yep just seen report of overheating brakes. No sign of Nasser. Did Roma start today, can't see him either?

Boiling the brake fluid perhaps......... which causes little pressure when pressing the brake pedal thus ....no brakes. Just some info for any folks like some of our great female fans that perhaps don't understand why or how or what comes along with over heating brakes. Iv'e also roasted pads in my day that may have happened also but in turn that what would cause the fluid to over heat.......as simple as it is it is as complicated as well. Dumping water is not the way to go at this point of the stage either....perhaps very close to the finish they could and risk warping and trashing parts that could be replaced......

I wonder if it's related to the issue they discovered prior to the race?

Is this Robby's first square dance with these brakes? What is so different this year than last?

Gawd, I hope and pray every year he will do well and have a really good start. I guess I celebrated too early last night.

Go Robby!

Nani started and is probably stopped and now helping Nasser with whatever his problem is........is my guess.

Good point. Looks like a leading mini (Terranova?) will have two sacrificial lambs to offer assistance for the rest of the rally. They will practically swap over a whole car at the marathon stage bivouac!

Robby through WP7 49:05 down
