STAGE 5 TRACKING

STAGE 5: CHILECITO > TUCUMAN

Connection 384km | Special Stage 527km | Total 911km

COURSE OVERVIEW

After two race days with completely separate routes, everyone will gather together to tackle the longest stage of the rally. They will need to be extremely resistant to overcome these two sections of the special stage which will primarily feature sand. All day long the competitors will make headway on off-piste sections: those who have poorly assessed the limits of their engine will constantly be on the verge of overheating and all the more so, as the region’s temperatures are generally very high. At the bivouac in Tucuman, the candidates for the podium will have been whittled down to a select few, as many of them will no longer be a part of this elite group. For many others, their timing and mechanical mishaps will only become apparent in the middle of the night.

The GREEN section of the route is the connection , the RED is the Special Section of the stage.

Peter 50 back overall

Nani Roma has put in a good performance so far today, since on completion of the first half of the special stage, he boasts a lead of 10’33' over second placed driver Giniel de Villiers. However already 32’39' separate him from his nearest team-mate Nasser Al-Attiyah and 34’22' from Stéphane Petehansel. It will be worse still for Carlos Sainz who is about to arrive at the end of the first half.

This was before RG passed WP5

Wouldn't suck for Nani to finally be the bride instead of the bridesmaid.

Nani has won the Dakar before on a bike.. I think in 2004.

Yes, Won on a bike in 2004 and in a car ever since with a 3rd overall in 2013 and 2nd overall in 2012.
