Charlotte, N.C. (Sept. 21, 2010) – After sitting out last weekend’s race in Loudon, New Hampshire, the 2010 leading NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Rookie-of-the-Year driver, Kevin Conway, is ready to get back behind the wheel of the No. 7 ExtenZe Toyota with Robby Gordon Motorsports this weekend at Dover International Speedway for Sunday’s running of the AAA 400.
Even though a Rookie in the Cup Series, the Lynchburg, Va. native heads to Dover this weekend with some experience to lean on. Conway has one Cup Series race and two Nationwide Series races under his belt at the Monster Mile. He finished 33rd in the May Cup race earlier this year and in the Nationwide Series he has a 24th-place finish (2009) and a 30th-place finish (2007) in his back pocket.
Conway also carries with him to Dover this weekend, 24 Rookie-of-the-Race awards and now leads fellow Cup Series Rookie competitor Terry Cook in the Raybestos Rookie race by 156 points (194 -38).
ExtenZe Racing Driver Kevin Conway Comments on Dover International Speedway:
“While I have some experience at Dover, it is a racetrack I’ve had mixed results and feelings about. Earlier this year, I had an ignition box go out on me and in the Nationwide Series races I’ve run, we usually got caught up in someone else’s mess there – a lot of times not of our own doing. But it’s a racetrack that’s a lot of fun to race on. It’s a cool racetrack, from the configuration and the speed that your carry, but it’s not one that I’ve had very much luck with at all.
“I think when you go to Dover, it’s almost like a high-speed Bristol. It races a lot like a short track, but the speeds are much higher. So, the first order of the day is to survive at Dover at make sure you’re there at the end.
“But I’m really excited and looking forward to getting back behind the wheel of the No. 7 this weekend. The last couple weeks have been really good for my new transition to Robby Gordon Motorsports. I’m coming off a Richmond race a couple weekends ago where I ran some of my most competitive laps that I’ve run all year long and I feel like our communication as a team is getting stronger. Even though I didn’t race at Loudon last weekend it was a good weekend to be with the guys at the track and pick up on some new things with Robby back behind the wheel.
“So we go on to Dover now where I look to continue to gain ground in the Raybestos Rookie standings.”
