CATAWBA, N.C. -- Catawba County authorities say NASCAR driver Jeremy Mayfield was arrested on drug charges Tuesday evening.

Mayfield, 42, was arrested at his rural mansion on Hudson Chapel Road in Catawba when police found methamphetamines while executing a search warrant for stolen property, according to the Catawba County Sheriff.

He has not been charged with stolen property found in his home, but police tell NewsChannel 36 some of the stolen items are racing memorabilia. Mooresville police and Lincoln County Sheriff's Deputies searched the property after receiving a tip.

Mayfield has a court appearance for Wednesday. He is out of jail on a $3,000 bond.

He was suspended from NASCAR after failing a drug test in May 2009

The man needs help, people are going to have a field day with this.
I'm sure NASCAR is relieved that the whole world now knows that weren't wrongly targeting Mayfield. Mayfield has hit rock bottom for sure. Such a waste.
Bigzoom,

Exactly what I was thinking, rock bottom for sure....He is not "Penske material"
AND... A "large amount" of stolen goods were recovered from Mayfield's property, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office. Detectives said they recovered items that had been stolen from Lee Boy, Inc., which is located on Highway 16 north, and Larry Grant, Inc., a trucking company in Lincolnton. The items recovered for Lee Boy, Inc., included heavy equipment parts, scrap metal, welders and welding accessories, the Sheriff's Office said. Investigators said the items recovered for Larry Grant, Inc., including truck parts, an engraving machine, truck mirrors and electric motor controllers. The items recovered are worth around $100,000, the Sheriff's Office said. They were found in a building and trailers on Mayfield's property and were returned to the owners, investigators said.(
Also found a Carl Long nascar motor.

man, I was hoping he wasnt going down this road
Many times I feel like NASCAR picks on the little guys and allows the big teams to get away with murder. I felt that way with this issue. I thought maybe he was innocent, and NASCAR was just forcing the issue to never admit they were wrong. Now it is obvious I was wrong.
Ed, you are not alone.
