NASCAR has suspended a Sprint Cup driver under terms of its substance abuse policy - immediately and indefinitely - in advance of Saturday nightís race at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway, ThatsRacin.com and The Charlotte Observer have learned.

Sources said the driver, who has not been identified by officials, was found to have violated Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing) and 7-5 (violation of the NASCAR substance abuse policy) of the 2009 NASCAR rule book. The determination was based on findings at last weekendís race at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway.

NASCAR on Saturday declined to discuss the matter, saying that questions would be dealt with in a news conference at the South Carolina track on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Such a suspension would be the first under NASCARís drug policies for a driver at the top level, the Spring Cup Series.

So, he is once again banned.
Mayfield sells race team to Carter-Simo Racing. Which will give them the Toyotas they need for Terry Labonte and gives them a little bit more owner points. So sad for Mayfield :(
stinks to be him!
If this is true, then Jeremy is sunk - and will deserve everything he gets:

NASCAR has a “significant number” of witnesses who will testify that suspended driver Jeremy Mayfield used methamphetamines, a NASCAR official said Monday. The official said those witnesses would testify to recent and long-term use.
...

Full article from the Charlotte Observer on ThatsRacin.com.

Makes you wonder how all these witnesses pop up now though? And how no one in the garage ever witnessed or suspected anything over the years.
I think it's safe to say that Jeremy Mayfield has spiked himself. What a dumbass. He takes stupidity to a whole new level.
I dunno.... everybody who races in this series sees what happens if you don't cooperate with NA$CRAP.... I won't believe anything until I see a photo of him doing it.... some kind of record or evidence that he bought or made the stuff.... or a independent bunch of tests ordered by the court at a lab of THEIR choice that come back positive. NA$CRAP is the racing mafia as far as I'm concerned. The day Robby stops racing in this series is the day I quit watching it.

These "witnesses" could be protecting their own asses in some way. Who knows. The whole thing stinks.... and I'm still safely on the fence.
I haven't commented on this yet, but the thing that gets me is this. If ihs Mother In Law is telling the truth and she seen him do it 30+ times over a period of years, how is he not showing any signs. I am guessing if he was using, it was not only when his MIL came around. In fact, he would probably try to avoid that, and if he did have the need or addiciton to do it that bad, he would obiously be a hard core user, of which he should be showing some kind of physical impact. Where are the signs.

Not sure what way it is going to go, but is he is innocent, I hope he owns NASCAR after this.
Stepmother sues suspended Mayfield over comments

STATESVILLE, N.C. (AP) -- Jeremy Mayfield's stepmother has sued the suspended NASCAR driver, claiming he made slanderous, false and defamatory statements.

In civil court papers filed Wednesday, Lisa Mayfield argues her stepson falsely accused her of killing his father and taking money from NASCAR. She's seeking compensatory and punitive damages of more than $10,000 each and "further relief as the Court may deem just and proper.''

Jeremy Mayfield's comments in several interviews came after his stepmother signed an affidavit claiming she witnessed him taking methamphetamine at least 30 times over seven years. Her affidavit was part of a NASCAR filing asking the federal judge who lifted Mayfield's drug suspension to reinstate the ban.

An appeals court has since ruled in NASCAR's favor to keep Mayfield off the track.

It's so refreshing to see families work together! This whole episode is so out of control, children - behave!
I'm waiting for the EX wife to chime in.
That's the next bombshell to drop I bet
I hate to be a conspiracist, but I bet NASCAR hired a laywer for the step mom. I can't believe this.....I don't even like Jeremy Mayfield. Where's Larry Povich or Jerry Springer when you need them? Line 'em up!
