Call it NASCAR on parade.
Next Thursday, a convoy of more than 50 NASCAR haulers will thunder through downtown Sacramento as Northern California welcomes the Sprint Cup series back for its annual visit.
First of its kind in Northern California, the hauler parade is part of the build-up to next week's Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma's Infineon Raceway. Qualifying is Friday, June 24, with the race on Sunday, June 26.
Almost as recognizable as the race cars they carry, the haulers - representing such star drivers as Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Tony Stewart and Jimmie Johnson - will loop around the State Capitol during the parade, which will start at 2 p.m. June 23 at the Tower Bridge.
With police escort, the custom semis will drive down Capitol Mall to Capitol Park. After one circle around the State Capitol grounds, the parade will head to the freeway and Sonoma, arriving at Infineon later that afternoon.
At the corner of L and 11th streets, fans also can take part in other pre-race festivities including giveaways and a chance to buy tickets.
