DW Cale Yarborough Ritchie Evans Glen Wood and Dale Inman are the next class to be inducted into the NASCAR Hall Of Fame . What do you all think ? Good choices ? Bad choices ? or dont give a damn lol
No other sport required that you be deceased to be considered for induction. That being said, Alan brought up a good point, drivers from a bygone era are at a disadvantage. I guess you'd call it the "out of sight out of mind" theory. They should absolutely get their due also. Guys like Petty, Pearson, DW, etc. are still fresh in the minds of the voters because they saw them race while they were at their peak. Just for arguments sake I'll throw out some Cup stats...
Keep in mind the were years when the Cup schedule was 45-55 race per year. In all honesty, some of these stats pale in comparison to guys like Petty, Pearson, Waltrip... or Gordon, Earnhardt & Elliott.
The bottom line is that the entire body of work is the criteria. Also consideration should be given to those who brought something else to the table, like innovation. In the end it is still a numbers game.
It's not going to matter much anyways since the Hall may go belly up...
Also, I'm glad they nominated Richie Evans. Coming from from an old Mod fan the "Rapid Roman" deserves it!
LOVE it for Richie and the northeast. Shampine was such a creative guy, he surely did change the sport with all his ideas! My two close tracks are (dirt) Canandaigua Speedway and Black Rock Speedway (pavement) Spencer Speedway
right on to that. if the next group of politicians (or voters) in Charlotte get tired of paying for it NASCAR will get a big black eye when they have to close it.
