Has anybody seen the November issue of Nascar Illustrated?  Kris Johnson did an Up-Front interview with Robby about what's happening in his career and his future plans. Robby said that he isn't closing and driving for someone else because he's invested so many years into what they have and he's in too deep. He has commitments to his people who have shown loyalty to him. He also said that he's mellowed with age but he still has that same passion when he puts the helmet on. He says."I'm still a mad man."

He says he has no regrets and if you look at his life, as wild and crazy as he is, there's no real drama behind the scenes. He says he has a kid (son, Max) and he doesn't regret that in any way, shape or form. He's never been in jail, never had DUI's. He says he's wild, but it's a controlled wild.

When asked if he was satisfied with being where he is, he says "I still want more, I want to win, I want to be competitive. I don't like being 35th in the points. Can I win a championship? I don't care to win a championship." He goes on to explain that if he had the proper budget and 100% effort behind it, he could win one. but he'd rather play with his Monster truck or go to Baja or Dakar. He

said "Why do I have to spend every weekend in Martinsville or Pocono when I can be in Argentina or Baja?"

When asked if his legacy was going to be along the lines of Sinatra's "I did it my way", he said:

"I don't even care about doing it my way. I just like to have fun and do what I do. We can't take this too serious. We race cars for a living. Let's get real. At the end of the day, we are an entertainment business. I realized that at a very young age and today we're still in the entertainment business, so I'm happy with the way it is right now."

Well said straight from the man...

Thanks for posting the article.
After reading the article and seeing RG's comments, it gives me a further appreciation for him as a business man and a driver. It makes me realize that I need to think harder about my past comments on RG's performance and realize that at the end of the day RG is doing what he loves and that I need to stop shooting from the hip w/ my posts regarding KC and the current situation. There were many drivers that I likes that are not even in the sport anymore and were competent in their performance and are now on the sideline watching from afar. The old comments "out of sight and out of mind" could not be any more true about many a current or past driver and at the end of the day I am appreciative that at least I can still cheer on RG and RGM. Alot of other teams have come and gone but RGM is still here, and you dont' have to like the current situation but realize that RG is obviously not happy with the performance either and at least is trying to right the ship. Glass half full from now on....Does this mean I have to purchase an KC Extenze T -shrt?....LOL
That sums up why I've followed RG all these years. If I wanted to be a fan of a NASCAR Champion I could have devoted all my time into just NASCAR. But being behind Robby I get to experience Baja, Dakar, Monster Trucks (?). I've been a fan for nearly 20 years after I first saw him hit the motorcycle jump behind Oldsmobile Hill in Glamis with a Trophy truck. Everyone sitting around on quads and sandrails were like "who is that guy"? Sombody said, "thats Robby Gordon, he races Baja and is getting into (I believe at the time it was CART) racing".
Been following RG's progressions every since, the ups and the downs, but always an adventure I wouldn't want to miss.
GAS (with a little ethanol) ON!
Puts a smile on my face, will have to buy 2 copies, 1 for keepsake and the other for the suitable for framing picture!
Going to have to buy that magazine. Good for Robby. There is more than NASCAR and 90% NASCAR drivers could not come close to running their own team (without help from rcr, hendrick, ect) and raing in an event like Dakar.
Robby has always walked to the beat of his own drum, and good for him.But in the end if you can't make money the fun part or entertainment can't happen. But good for Robby doing it his way.
not to the beat of his drum ("its a nut beating on a fuel drum")
I've never quibled with Rob's business accumen, just his team's ability to field and adjust competitive cars that are equal to his talent.
Bingo!.....that very aspect has given me back my Sundays.
