Johnny Benson is in a tough situation with his Camping World Series truck team. He has a sponsor lined up, and Nascar has approved it. The problem is the TV Networks have informed the team they would avoid his team for TV time, including Speed TV. The sponsorship is a gun manufacturer and doesn't violate Nascar's approved sponsorship guidelines, but TV Networks feel they would need to avoid promoting the sponsor to avoid any issues. Benson doesn't feel it would be fair for the sponsor to be sold on exposure through the series and be avoided by television networks.

The economy is making it harder to land sponsorship and Nascar has already turned down several proposed sponsorship packages. Playboy magazine, Penthouse magazine, Trojan condoms, AT&T wireless, Verizon, and Nokia already have been rejected in the last 12 months. AT&T wireless left the sport after Sprint forced them out. Verzion colors are on the Penske #12, but no logos are allowed and the car is referred at the Penske #12. Nokia is a wireless phone manufacturer and voilates the telecom exclusiveness Sprint has. Nascar wasn't ready to allow adult companies like Playboy, Penthouse or Trojan.

Robby had to remove Motorola from his car the year before last when Nascar rejected it's paint scheme, but accepted Motorola's Media Player instead.

Hell yeah. If NASCAR approves it, then screw the network--if he's running up front or he wins they'll need to cover him or they'll have egg on their face
Yeah, JB needs to just do it. This situation is very odd. His car owner works for Fox and Speed.
My response is TV's gotta cover you if you're running up front.... Johnny should take the sponsorship and run it and win in it.

The thing that is puzzling to me is this. Jeff Hammond co-owns that truck. Couldn't he pull a few strings? He is part of the Fox network of channels ( Fox, Speed, FX).
Anyone who has followed Nascar has seen the "rules" bend, change and never the same...

Driver below the yellow line get penalized at plate tracks, unless you're Dale Earhardt, Jr.
Davey Allison gets punted at a road course by Ricky Rudd, Nascar makes Allison the winner...Ambrose punts Robby and Robby is asked to blend in around 13th position.
Tony tells a Nascar official an ear full. rams a driver's car, flips a bird, and shoves a reporter...result ...a trip to Nascar's hauler and firm talking.
Robby igmores Nascar and gets parked!

Nascar has allowed several questionable sponsors, like Viagra and Enzyte. Nascar has allowed Smith & Wesson, Colt & Glock, now the TV networks say ...NO...???

This is crazy. I would agree and say JB needs to run the sponsor anyway, but the networks would black out his sponsor or cover their network logo over the gun logo...stupid stuff.
This is stupid, pure and simple. Even Formula one has had these type of sponsors...

DTM too.

Being picky during the current times it's not smart.
another puzzling thought....i'm supprised to see Fox nd Speed do something like this..Why? Because Alot of thier anchors on news shows to include Glen Beck and others are very pro for gun rights. This is just a guess here but i'm willing to say that one of the major sponsers on the Fox/Speed network must be twisting thier arm on this.
And BassProShops is one of Na$cars favorites - gets tons of air time, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I can walk in there with $300 and walk out with a Taurus .38 the same day. Sounds like a gun dealer to me.

Seems like I've also seen Remington on a car or two over the years.
Run the guns Johnny! Speed will have no choice to talk to him when he gets a win. If they don't they will look like the budget effort fools that they are.
I'm not a gun advocate by any streach of the amagination. Quite the contrary but, this isn't about guns. It's about a network telling the people how the races they cover should be run. They are making a futile attempt to control a sport that they "cover". They don't have any right to tell others what they should and shouldn't do.
Speed is stuck in reverse. They have taken away most of the "racing" from there programing as it is. Where is WRC, FIM motocross, DTM, Offroad racing, etc......they have been removed and replaced with Pinks, living the low life and other drama queen shows. Reminds me of MTV becoming a "reality show" network. Show some "real" racing for a change.
It's all about who you are and who you kiss up to.... If it were a Hendrick or Rousch team, we wouldn't be having this chat. JB is a real driver, not big money. It's the new NA$CAR.... not as much about racing as how deep you can line someone's pockets.
