@PattyKay, you where kind to BF on the COT. I saw it as the opportunity by Brian France to make the cars the indirect property of NASCAR. From the Brett Bodine designed body to the certification of parts and chassis's. It changed the dynamic's of the manufactures relationship with fans, drivers, and NASCAR. Brian's greed,IMO

Mike, if it were my sworn duty to be unkind to BoZo, I would do so gladly, but I prefer to present facts and let the reader decide the outcome. The man lives with the delusion that everything on Planet Earth revolves around NASCAR, and by extension, his lard-butt. The fans have shown him that is not true, by voting with their feet, fannies and wallets, yet he remains floating about on that little pink cloud.
One thing I must correct if I might. Brett Bodine was a late comer to the design of the COT. The original idea and design, most of which never made it to the race track, were done by Gary Nelson, a man with no shortage of know-how and brains. Compared to Gary, Brett makes a fairly good Pace-car driver. However, Gary had little stomach for having NASCAR do the design on what he felt was "his" car. He had plans to work with the aero design to eliminate the need for restrictor plates at the giant tracks. Gary doesn't work there anymore, and Brett took over when he left. Brett takes orders better, so he is now given the credit for a car that was actually designed by a committee.
You know what they say, "A camel is a horse, designed by a committee. Can the sport survive BoZo? I don't honestly know.

@PattyKay, I would prefer to blame Bodine for the Chemung Wing or an obsession with the Fast & Furious Toyko Drift cars.As for Gary, I'd believe he was savvy to leave before he was tied to the COT.
As for the whole 'Gen' term as used now, previously only by the import youth discribing they're import body style.
The pre COT car really was 2 different styles.Straight up and Twisted sister.

Blame him for anything you like Mike. I was there the day that he didn't win at North Wilkesboro in what stands in the record books as his only win. NASCAR is prone to popping up with "new" terms and pretending they've always been there. A while back, I did a whole article on dashboards... explaining the difference between analog and digital... and the fact that neither were the "glass dashboards" of Brian's dreams. He too often tosses terms about as though he knows what he's talking about, when it's clear that he never did.
By "Twisted Sister", I know you're not discussing a musical group, but the crab-walking cars of the early millennium. They weren't a different car; they were just equipped and rigged in a slightly different manner than their older counterparts. Ugly, but effective. Straight from the book of Smokey Yunick... if it's not in the rule book, then it's not against the rules. :)

On a 'Smokey' note, Thankfully I was able to have a conversation and shake his hand before his passing.Still a fond moment in time for me.

Then I am eternally jealous because that is a chance I never got. I have met his daughter Trish (On Twitter) and we get along great. I still count Smokey as my all-time #1 Racing Hero. Big Bill wasted a great asset when he let that man go to IndyCar.

Your articles always make me smile and help me to remember a time when Nascar was fun and exciting. Your comparison of Brian France to Keith Richards made me laugh out loud.
Thanks for the mention of Barney Hall. May he rest in peace. His voice, along with his broadcast colleagues like Eli Gold, were on my radio every weekend even after racing was picked up by the various tv networks. I would turn the tv down and replace the sound with MRN. So much more informative and entertaining any day.

Thanks so much Sarah. I truly wish I could somehow bring back the time when NASCAR was fun and the racing was captivating, not boring like watching an endless parade. As for the Keith Richard mention... at least he could sing. What else can I say? ~LOL
I also was in the habit of tuning out my TV and going to Barney and the gang on MRN. I've recommended that for several years to my readers. I always started out with good intentions, but it doesn't take too long to overdose on Waltrip²! NBC proved to be a refreshing change this past year though. A great improvement over what will return in just a short time now. Barney will be greatly missed by so many folks... and he was one of the ever lessening few around that was older than I am. ☺

Easy there, I'm a Keith Richards fan.

Aha! So you're the one! ☺

Smarty pants. The debauchery aside, Keith will be known as one of the greatest guitarists in music history. Brian's greatness will be only that he was born into the France family. I wonder if he was a 'oops' baby?

Nothing "smarty" about me. I recognize Keith's talents, but also his weaknesses. I have a question. Did you read the article, or are you just going on Sarah's comment? If you didn't read, your comments don't count. If you did read, then I'll have a new reader.
I think it's commendable that a 77-year old woman even knows who Keith Richards is.
