Nationwide Series going to Road America

Nationwide Series going to Road America: Despite the demise of the Milwaukee Mile, NASCAR still plans to come to Wisconsin in 2010. Elkhart Lake's Road America -- arguably the best road course in the country -- will host the Nationwide Series on June 19, the date that had been held for the Mile. That will make for a road-racing doubleheader weekend for NASCAR, with the Sprint Cup Series in Sonoma, Calif. Stock cars aren't entirely new to RA. Tim Flock won in NASCAR's premier division in its only appearance in 1956. Lower divisions have competed at the track, including the defunct NASCAR Midwest Series in 2001, a race won by current Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series driver Paul Menard.(Milwaukee Journal Sentinel)(12-21-2009)

wow.This will be very interesting to see which cup regulars and road ringers perform 'double duty' . Perfect market for Menards to jump all over this.

Why good news? bad news? Mile getting borring as of late. RA will create unexpected winners and could it be possible that If RG gets sponsors he will perform double duty? Why doesnt John Menards team up with RG and be a team instead of going to yates?

I second that. A lot of people don't realize that Milwaukee was in operation even before Indy. Many of the great drivers that came out of the midwest cut their teeth on local short tracks, and then dreamed of one day racing at Milwaukee.

I've been a huge advocate in support of the Milwaukee Mile. I still believe that there is hope for the track. But it's going to be difficult with the track being owned by the State of Wisconsin and the debt service issues that plague track promoters. Little did I know that we'd be at the point we are now!

On the flip side, I'm thankful that it looks like NASCAR is going to keep the race date here in Wisconsin. And I'll even cross my fingers and hope that Robby finds a deal to race up here!

I understand how bummed you must be to see this track get to this point. I thought that Wilkesboro would have been bulldozed by now, and it got somewhat of a new pulse. So there is always hope that things can turn around for the Milwaukee Mile too.

I hate to see tradition go down the shitter but that's what mismanagement will do for you.

I'm surprised NASCAR would select Road America being that it's a 4 mile course and they use they shorter circuits at the Glen and Infineon. I'm also curious if NASCAR will use the 'kink' or wimp out for the chicane. Let's hope they set the race distance so it doesn't become a fuel mileage contest.
