SAN DIEGO—With pre-running on the official race course beginning Wednesday, SCORE officials will unveil the course map for the upcoming 45th annual Tecate SCORE Baja 500 during Tuesday’s airing of Roger Norman’s Dirt LiveHD weekly Internet broadcast Tuesday at 7 p.m. Pacific Time. Airing in High Definition on www.score-international.com, the show will air from its broadcast home at the SCORE International tech shop in San Diego.
Presenting a detailed description presentation of the rugged race course of just over 500 miles will be SCORE Race Director Jose Grijalva who has just returned from a course-marking expedition with SCORE President Roger Norman.
Also featured on the show will be youthful SCORE Trophy Truck racer Justin Davis along with award-winning Mexican journalist Gabriel Garcia, the motorsports editor of the El Vigia newspaper in Ensenada, Mexico.
Davis, just 19 of Chino Hills, Calif., is a rookie in SCORE Trophy Truck, the marquee racing division in the entire sport for high-tech, 850-horsepower unlimited production trucks where he drives the No. 85 Green Army Motorsports Ford F-150. Davis, who rapidly ascended to the featured racing class after winning SCORE season point championships in SCORE Lites (2010) and the unlimited Class 1 (2011), is fresh from winning the overall title at the recent King Shocks HDRA 250 in Ridgecrest, Calif.
Garcia, whose features and stories also appear on a number of Internet sites, has been covering desert racing for over a decade. Garcia was also voted the prestigious 2011 Judy Smith SCORE Journalist of the Year Award.
Roger Norman’s Dirt Live one-hour show is broadcast live weekly and the show is anchored around Norman’s two desert racing series, the SCORE Desert Series and the High Desert Racing Association as well as the new bonus points championship purse program he has developed called the World Championship of Desert Racing. All live events, this will be the 18th weekly Dirt LiveHD episode to air.
Dirt Live also goes on-site live with expanded event coverage during SCORE and HDRA race weekends and recently broadcast four days of coverage from the 27th Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250 from San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico in March and from the King Shocks HDRA 250 in Ridgecrest, Calif. in April.
SCORE is finalizing plans for even more extended and enhanced coverage, all in High Definition, at the upcoming 45th Tecate SCORE Baja California in Ensenada, Mexico. Being held May 30-June 2, the event will also commemorate the 40th anniversary of SCORE International, which started on July 26, 1974 with the Tecate SCORE Baja 500.
This year’s Tecate SCORE Baja 500 race course will be just over 500 miles long, starting and finishing in the heart of Ensenada on Blvd. Costero adjacent to the landmark Riviera del Pacifico Cultural Center.
SCORE has also announced the pre-running on the race course will begin officially on Wednesday, except for the portion from the start to Ojos Negros (approximately 35 miles), which will be used in both directions during the race.
Designed and finalized by Norman and Grijalva, the historic race course will be another memorable example of all that Mexico’s Baja California has to offer, including high-speed dirt trails, sandy, rocky and silty natural terrain, majestic Baja washes and canyons, stretches along the seashore with elevations from sea level to over 4,000 feet. The course will be another jewel reflecting the stark beauty of Baja California.
Besides Grijalva and Garcia, other guests scheduled this week along with show host George Antill are SCORE’s Roger Norman with his ‘pit stop’ segment along with the regular Tech Tips segment which this week will feature SCORE co-tech director Jake Velasco. The Dirt LiveHD video of the week will also be shown.
DIRT LIVE OFF-ROAD EXPO
Downtown Reno, Nev., will come alive July 10-12 when the Dirt Live Off-Road Expo brings together desert racers, off-road enthusiasts, and exhibitors for three exciting action-packed days. Under the famous Virginia Street arch, the Dirt Live Off-Road Expo in the Northern Nevada gaming city will gather the competitors of the High Desert Racing Association, aficionados of desert racing, and enthusiasts of all kinds, in a summertime festival atmosphere around the Monster Energy Stage and in the BFGoodrich Tires Hospitality area.
The Dirt Live Off-Road Expo will combine the action and excitement of the Monster Energy Freestyle Stunt Team, and nationally known musical artists, with award winning Eldorado Hotel Casino cuisine, famous Reno hospitality, contests, exhibits, and seminars for racers, fans, and enthusiasts.
Friday, July 12, the Reno’s iconic Virginia Street will fill up with hundreds of trucks, race cars, motorcycles and ATVs for technical inspections for competition in the Eldorado HDRA Reno 500 the following day at the Tahoe Reno Motorplex.

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP OF DESERT RACING
The 2013 SCORE Desert Series will also be part of the quickly-evolving World Championship of Desert Racing, which will combine points accumulated in two of the three SCORE Baja races along with points earned from three of the four-race 2013 HDRA Series, all held in the United States. Both the SCORE and HDRA series will crown their own individual class and overall point champions as well with a bonus purse for those racers who qualify for the World Championship of Desert Racing points bonus purse program to earn a desert racing World Champion title.
With a growing total, for the inaugural World Championship of Desert Racing bonus purse, an official total of $45,000 has been posted to date from new SCORE sponsors Amber Racing Services ($25,000), King Shocks ($10,000) and Rigid Industries ($10,000).
For car and truck classes with at least three starters in each qualifying race in 2013, the World Champion titles will be decided on combined points from the three SCORE races and three HDRA races with the bonus purse paid using the same formula based on total purse and number of starters in each class as is used currently for each SCORE race.
For the pro motorcycle and ATV classes, the World Championship of Desert Racing will include points earned in the three SCORE Baja races as well as the AMA National Hare and Hound race to be held during the Eldorado HDRA Reno 500.
DAKAR CHALLENGE 2013
This year’s Tecate SCORE Baja 500 and Eldorado HDRA Reno 500 (July 12-14) are part of a special program where the combined best qualified car/truck finisher and combined best qualified motorcycle finisher will each receive special entry packages into the 2014 Dakar Rally in South America. QUALIFYING A FIRST…
For the first time in SCORE Baja racing history, qualifying for starting positions will be held. On Thursday, qualifying for both the SCORE Trophy Truck and the unlimited Class 1 will be held over a special course near Ensenada. Qualifying is being held at an undisclosed location and will not be open to the public.
To date, there are a total of 37 SCORE Trophy Trucks and 21 Class 1 entries that will qualify for their starting positions. For the top two car and truck classes, the start drawing identified their qualifying order in each class.
Receiving the first qualifying positions in their respective classes were B.J. Baldwin, Las Vegas, in the No. 1 Monster Energy Baldwin Motorsports Chevy Silverado SCORE Trophy Truck and Eduardo Laguna, Mexicali, Mexico, who drives the No. 117 Speed Energy RPM Racing RGM-Chevy open-wheel race car.
Tampa Digital Studios and Tempt Media Films will tape all qualifying vehicle for broadcast use on the ground and from the SCORE TV helicopter and part of the qualifying session will air live on the Dirt LiveHD race coverage at www.score-international.com.
