Opee The Dog that races the Baja 500.

I don't remember seeing this posted here before and thought it was so cool I just had to share.. I read about this in the paper yesterday. He actually finished the Baja 500.

In 2006 at the Baja 500 Opee and the dogs owner Simon were staying at the same hotel as myself and the Jimco crew. I got to Meet Simon, Opee and check out the mods to the bike so Opee had a place to sit. Simon was telling how Score and Sal had to sign off on letting him put Opee on the bike. Opee even had a Score wristband on him, it was around a collar. I guess he sent video footage over to Score so they could see Opee on the bike in action. Anyways the plan was to have Opee ride the first 100 miles and then get back on for the last 100 miles. Simon was saying the he can go pretty quick with Opee on the bike, but the big whoops are tough and that was why he was not going to try too have Opee stay on the whole time. Also he would have to stop and let both him and Opee rest. He said about 100 mile was max for Opee.

Check out this photo from the 2006 Baja 500 and notice the mask on the front headlight. There was some story behind it, but I was not told it. And Opee was a very friendly dog that walked around the hotel / rental houses and never wandered off to far or barked.
