Does this affect Robby's eligibility or was this statement just meant for persons competing in the Motorbike category? Has Robby ever competed in any World Rally Races? Does the CER in 2008 count?

......Organizers will now require all drivers to have competed in a World Rally competition and one Dakar Rally in the past three years.

If not he will get an exemption I m sure. Credit for the baja etc. This is to weed out less experienced drivers
Robby will be just fine.
My take is this is to weed out drivers who have not competed in intensive high speed off road endurance racing. Robby and Eric V. will not be impacted with this change but drivers for Hummer 3 and 4 might be.
sounds like you have to have at least one of those races in the last 3 years. BJ's got the CER last year. should help his cause if he's still interested, although he's on generals now (wonder if that would be an issue).
Will we see a Monster sponsored WRX with RG behind the wheel?
Man I hope so
I swear RG missed his calling in World Rally.....
Would have loved to see RG in World Rally competition. I used to watch the one hour show on Speed Channel at 10:00 on Sunday night and got hooked on it. They discontinued the show and I don't believe it's broadcast anywhere in this country. Too bad.
That is probably a mistake or misprint by who wrote the story, for several reasons and the most important being that it would leave just a hand full of drivers that could run the DAKAR then. It should probably read like this "...Rally competition OR one Dakar...", but I wouldn't read much into this, I have not red any thing like that in any european motorsports racing newspaper ou website.

And besides, the world rally championship doesn't have anything to do with the DAKAR style racing, they're two completly forms of motorsports with diferent types of cars and stages and there are not that many drivers who raced in both. And what would happen to the bikes or the trucks?

And most important of all, Robby is the most popular driver in Dakar right now, and the ASO knows that, and they want to keep him there for as long as they can.

So, don't worry, he'll be there, with 3 or 4 Hummers next year.
Thats pretty awesome to hear, Bruno. It's kinda hard for me,(&prolly some others here) to imagine RG being the most pop driver. It's badass, but wayy diff from over here. Also if the aso knows RG has the most pop title, they aren't likely to create any scheduling conflicts for him.
I bet they were refering to a World Rally RAID competition. Not a WRC event. These are events similar to Dakar but shorter. The Dakar organizers have been getting more involved in the Rally Raid events in the past few years.
So what manufacturers run in World Rally Raid? I know that WRC has just Fords and Citroens competing for the Manufacturer's championship.
It isn't a series. Just different Rally-Raids around the globe. Same compeditors as Dakar (though not as many). VW, Mitsubishi, KTM Repsol etc.. The guys like Peterhansel, Coma etc. compete on the same teams as they do in Dakar all year. I think the ASO (Dakar governing body) wants to build a series and get these other races under it's control. If you have to enter other races to qualify for Dakar, the other races will benefit.
