Ray Evernham looking to be involved with a race team again.

This is not speculation, there is no talk of Ray helping RGM, this is just for conversation. Read this slowly as I'm saying this is just for conversation and their is little to no chance Ray will ever be involved with RGM!

The article states that Ray might consider getting back involved with a team again. IMO I dont think Ray wants to own or even be an owner as he already went down that road and probably will never want to do that again. But Ray was a CC and a good CC at that.

So my question is, do you think Ray and Jeff Gordon could and might get back together again? The best days for both of them is when they were together.

Now knowing Ray and Robby have had a relationship and Ray was a big part of Robby looking to Gillett and wanting to sell to Gellett. Do you think Ray could or would consider working with RGM?

What could Ray bring to RGM that RGM does not already have? Could Ray bring RGM from a top 30th place team to a top 20th place team. Would Robby listen to Ray or would Robby override Ray like he has shown in the past with other employees?

Evernham looking to be involved with race team again: Former car owner and crew chief, Ray Evernham, said prior to Sunday's season-ending Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway that he hopes to get a series of legal issues resolved in the coming weeks that may pave the way for a return in some capacity with a race team. "Unfortunately for me, there are a lot of legal things going on right now. And there will be more legal things to come," said Evernham, who remains a minority stockholder in what is now known as Richard Petty Motorsports and also serves as a color analyst on ESPN television race broadcasts. "I'm not 100 percent sure [what I'll be doing next year]. Right now I have a contract on the table from ESPN -- and I love working for ESPN. I have a blast with what I do there. We'll have to see. I'm not going to say that I'll never be back over here. I just don't know in what capacity."
Evernham has made no secret of his desire to rid himself of his minority stake in RPM, which previously was known as Gillett Evernham Motorsports -- and before that was simply Evernham Motorsports, in which he was founder and majority owner. "I've got some meetings next week. There is a lot going on where we've got to get some clear communication on -- things that are going on and where I fit in all that," Evernham said. "I own a percentage of everything as a stockholder. I am a stockholder in that business today." He also has a non-compete deal with Gillett-Evernham that he would like clarified -- if not severed altogether. That could clear the way for him to return to the garage in some capacity with another race team beginning as early as next season. Evernham added that he has not spoken with majority owner George Gillett on any consulting issues since last May.(NASCAR.com)(11-23-2009)

For Ray to say this, leads me to believe he already has something in the works, pending getting his RPM contract issues resolved, with a top tier team. ( Rick Hendrick- Hello Ray, I really need you to perform your magic on Dale Jr ) That is the challenge that Ray would love to have. A struggling driver for the #1 team owner in Nascar. Endless resources at his disposal to right the ship.
or he's a glutton for punishment
+1
Good thought TOG. I never thought of Dale Jr. That is a good pick. I too think Ray is looking for a challenge, but at the same time is he willing to spend the amount of time he did when he and Jeff were on top? I dont know if Ray is wanting to spend 60 to 80 hours a week and travel to the tracks. And like you said going to Hendrick means endless resources and I doubt Hendrick would question Ray spending money. Where as with a team like RGM they need to be accountable for every dime spent. Ray would be a great team manager and that would keep him off the road.

I also see Ray being interested in a smaller team that needs that help stepping up to the next level. Maybe that is Ray challenge. I could also see Ray at a team like Red Bull where they could afford Ray, and yet he could really show his talent and prove it is more him then what the team currently has.

This is why I thought this would be a good topic.
As far as RGM goes,I say stay as far away from POS #2 as possible.I don't think RGM needs Mrs. Crocker!!
