My first trip to Glamis on my own was when I was 1965 and I was 16. My parents let me go because they knew the older guys with the Hemet Jeep Club would be good chaperons. Someone that wasn't going that Thanksgiving loaned me their grooved sand tires for the CJ5 and a friend tied them down on their buggy trailer to haul for me. To say I had fun is an understatement. I was hooked and would go to every sand event held after that for a few years. Glamis on T day, Buttercup for New Years Eve, and Pismo for the Summer holidays.

My parents didn't know what they had started by letting me go to Glamis. My chaperon for the weekend was Rodney Hall and that worked out pretty well. Right after that I went to work for him after school at one of his gas stations. Then I started going to races with him on his crew. One thing led to another after that. Nope, my parents didn't have a clue what they had gotten me into.

All you guys have fun this weekend!
nice story
my last trip to the dunes was thanksgiving 83 and spent 4 hours cutting 3 guys out of 2 sandrails (head on crash and everyone was drunk 2 died )and transporting them to where a blm ranger and amblances could haul then off
took the fun out the sand so never went back!!
Not sand but if we can relate to "off road and childhood" we had a place here in western new york called zoar motor park---zoar valley maybe. I was about 11 or twelve we did the weekend camping and there were lots of classes---great great great memories any young parents out there take your kids to a hill climb or and off roadie or the local short track. Kids no matter your taste love that stuff.
If you have any interest in going to Glamis tomorrow RG has some fun stuff planned. Hope to see you all there.
rub it in...lol....wish i was there....
I didn't know I was going until this morning. I had to rebook my flight today, you can imagine how hard/expensive it is to get a flight on the Sunday following thanksgiving.
Did the Speed Energy team get kicked out? And did Robby get a ticket? The Speed Energy twitter does not look too happy.
No, Robby was not kicked out, although the BLM tried their best. All issues we're extremely minor in nature. I just got back from the dunes. I have a flight in 6 hours, but will write something about the days events tomorrow along with some pictures.
Right-on, looking forward to it
