If you look at Nascar's track payouts, the purse money can add $1.5 million to a team by simply finishing in the Top 20 instead of mid 30's. The difference per race is about $25,000 for finishing 20th instead of 33rd.

you forgot "where is the link"
RG doesnt go out there to try to finish in the 30's, zoom. Of course the rewards are higher for finishing better. I think the last thing RGM needs right now is couch accountants.
Robby has stated that he is only in the 5th year of his NASCAR program. The reason he is successful in the Baja he has been at it for 20 years. If you remember only a couple of years ago he was fighting to make races.
This all makes sense now, i thought those start and park guys were doing it for the extra money, and i thought that didnt make sense. But now i think ive got it, thanks BigZoom!
they would fit right in with all the couch CC....Right??
if you want to make a real difference in purse money, win 1 race so you're in the winners circle program.

Actually, if NASCAR paid according to performance instead of who you are, you could probably fund a team from winnings if you performed consistently well

the current economy and sponsorship woes should be a wake-up call to change the way things work

imagine if MLB kept all the TV money baseball brings in!
MLB is a bad example. The more appropriate model is the NFL which divides evenly allowing teams to remain in Green Bay MN KC Seatle etc. I know years ago (before this caused me to lose hope for the Royals and quit paying attention) the NY teams had cable contracts of 150-200 million - the Royals was 3 million! How long will that keep the new Cy Young winner here?
Your first point was a good one though. Remember when Ricky Rudd won the Brickyard on a fuel gamble? He was an underfunded single car team finishing mid 30's every week (sound familiar?) but with that win( largest purse except Daytona) and getting back on winners circle he ran 10-15 the rest of the year. One of his crew members told me it wasn't momentum or confidence just the added $$$
Yea. I live out near Lawrence ( Jayhawks squeaked by tonite - I think Memphis may be better than advertised). I don't think salary cap would work - remember Trump and the USFL? He did "personal service contracts" with Doug Flutie and Herschal Walker. I can hear A-Rod now "Yea I make a million dollars playing for the Yankees but I've got a part time gig three mornings a week weeding Steinbrenner's garden(wink wink) - pays pretty good."
Revenue sharing NFL style would be better otherwise youll only have teams on the coasts and the superstations - Cubs and Braves. Nazscar will go the same way 5 teams - 15-20 cars just like F!
well, your right. I was only thinking of the TV contacts negotiated by MLB. Maybe even a better example would be the PGA where the big sponsor agreements come for the event, not the participants and the TV money sweetens the pot to the point here winners often take home over 1 million dollars. There is real disparity based on performance, by the time you get to 3rd or 4th the purse is generally a third or a fourth of the top money.

Imagine being able to pay your way and make good money from purses alone - that would be a game changer
Okay, guess I didn't word that right...smart remarks expected.(Thanks Cow & TOG!)

I guess what I was trying to say was... RGM is starting to run & finish better since Doug has come on board. If they maintain their improvement into next season the cash flow should be better and hopefully enough money for more than 8 races.
What Robby has done since 2005 is nothing short of amazing. He has made every race since the fall of 2005 and had stayed in the top 35 since the start of 2006. I think he fell to 36th one week but got back into the top 35 the very next race. When he started his team many said he wouldnt last a year, aka dw. So the fact he has lasted this long is awesome and the balme cant all be palced of him, in fact most is one the economy and the fact that NASCAR will always favor the big teams and they wont do enough to make it easier on the single car teams. Did anyone catch RG saying his team wasnt invited to one tire test this year? Thats because only the big teams get that advantage. Every team should have a chance to tire test. In fact one car from every team once a year and one thime only.
I thought he had a tire test at Indy the Monday before the Prelude date in June?
