BLYTHE - NASCAR driver and off-road racing legend Robby Gordon is making a pit stop in Blythe next Wednesday to sign autographs and hand out free samples of his new energy drink, "Speed."
After working with Red Bull and Monster drinks, Gordon decided to produce his own energy drink that he had a hand in making. He now presents Speed energy drink, available in three flavors - Fuel, Octane and Unleaded.
Valley Beverage owner, Gary Doyle, was contacted by Tim Noe from Speed Energy drinks to discuss the distribution of the drink. After meeting with Noe, sampling the product and speaking with other distributors in Imperial, Calif. and Lake Havasu, Ariz. who already distribute the drinks, Doyle agreed to make the drinks available in Blythe.
Gordon, who may be better known on the racetrack since he is currently the owner and driver of the No. 7 Speed Energy Drink car on the NASCAR circuit, has also been an off-road driver since the age of 16, which is what brings him to the area.
He will be in Parker, Ariz. Feb. 4-6 for the Parker 425 "Best in the Desert" series; but before Qualifiers on Thursday, Tech and Contingency on Friday, and the race on Saturday morning, Gordon wanted to come to Blythe.
Doyle knew that Gordon has been in Glamis and Laughlin handing out samples and getting to know people and was pleased that Gordon wanted to do the same in Blythe.
"I am happy with Gordon's approach and how accessible he is," Doyle said. "He wants to get out and meet the community. That's great."
Valley Beverage, Brian's Freeway Shell and Quiznos invite the community to come out to the Shell Station, 201 S. Lovekin Blvd. from 3-5 p.m. on Feb. 2. Come out and meet Gordon and get an autograph and a free energy drink.
The drinks come in 12-ounce cans and are already on the shelves at Brian's Freeway Shell and other local vendors.
