Charlotte, NC (September 4, 2009) – Robby Gordon, one of the hardest-working racers, is attempting yet again to define the meaning of double-duty. While many NASCAR regulars participate on the same track just different series any given weekend, Gordon will set himself apart from the competition and take it to the next level this weekend – racing two different tracks, two different terrains, two different states, two different series, all on the same day.
As part of the multi-year product development and marketing agreement Polaris and Gordon inked earlier this year, Polaris will be the primary sponsor of Gordon’s No. 007 THE Off Road Championship Series (TORC) Chevy Silverado race truck for the TORC race and the primary sponsor on the No. 7 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Toyota Camry at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
A whirlwind of a weekend, Gordon will practice and qualify for the TORC race on Friday afternoon in Crandon, Wis., then fly to Atlanta to practice and qualify for the Pep Boys 500 on Saturday. Sunday morning, he will race the TORC event at Crandon International Off-Road Raceway then jump on a plane and head south for the 500-lap NASCAR race under the lights of Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Over the span of the weekend, Gordon will put in over 5000 miles this weekend – 516 miles of racing and 4,500 of travel. Celebrating his 20-year anniversary of his first TORC World Championship win, Gordon returns to Crandon in hopes of capturing the first cup race of the TORC season. He remains the youngest off-road racer in history to win a World Championship title and ring at Crandon.
This weekend also marks Gordon’s 18th-appearance at Atlanta Motor Speedway, completing 5400 of 5460 laps or 98.9% of all laps attempted. He has led 43 laps and owns one pole at the 1.54-mile track.
“I am very excited about this new opportunity with Polaris as the primary sponsor of the TORC entry in Crandon and the NASCAR entry in Atlanta. To combine these two tracks where I historically perform well together on Labor Day weekend should make for an exciting double-header,” commented Robby Gordon on the Polaris sponsorship.
“We cannot be more excited to be associated with Robby and what he is trying to accomplish in both Crandon and Atlanta,” said Craig Scanlon, director of Off-Road Vehicle sales for Polaris. “Robby has quickly become an integral part of the Polaris family and we are very proud to have him represent the more than 3,000 employees at Polaris.”
The TORC off-road race can be seen live on ABC on Sunday, September 5th at 4:00 p.m. EST. Please note that Robby Gordon’s race will be pre-recorded. Live television coverage of the Labor Day Classic 500 will begin at 7:00 p.m. EST on ESPN on Sunday.
