Assuming a flawless race for everyone, no flats or downtime.... What is the time saved by not pitting?

How many times will the TT's have to stop for fuel in the 456 miles?

How much times does it take to pit each time?

Per Robby in the TORR interview (at about the 6:40 mark) no pits stops and the Hummer is a foot narrow'r than the TT. Robby also said the course consisted of a lot of narrow roads.And unrestricted the Hummer had a much higher top speed.

In this footage after stop and start time,Robby's stop took right at 1 minute, the interviewers where commenting that Robby's pit times are way quiker than others.

I thought TT's need 3 stops for the 500.Maybe NIKAL can give us the real answer.

The Baja500 is really going to be interesting with this strategy......thank God RG keeps it real.....that cat is always thinking. So Robby is going to beat them during pit stops and at top end speed; I got that. But where are the other TTs going to beat him? Is he going to be in the way some of the time.....and how will this play out? I hope when this is happening he just let's it go and doesn't overdrive the equipment into a failure. Robby is so used to hunting down any competitor in the dirt and has the equip to do it.....now he is going to employ a race-long strategy and it will take the whole race for the enire advantage to materialize, so he'll need a clean Hummer to see it all the way through. RG is known for 11 tenths racing.... not necessarily known for letting the race come to him.

I don't want to even pretend that Robby hasn't thought this thing through and knows what he has to do. I sure hope it works and he schools them all! Go RG! Bring home the gold!

Not exactly the same strategy but similar. A few years back Mark Miller used a moble fueling system during the 2004 Baja 1000, where they fueled on the speed limited highway sections while driving and they ended up winning in TT (second overall) by 20ish minutes to the second place TT. Not sure how much this helped but I sure it played a part.

That was another thing that I was thinking about......now that RG's strategy is out there, how will the competition react and can they come up with something to foil Robby's plan?

To my understanding, the TT's in their current configuration would never be able to make that type of mileage without a gigantic fuel cell (maybe 150+ gallons). They are too big, unaerodynamic, heavy and therefore through all that have to have a ton of horsepower to overcome it all.

The Hummer is so much smaller, lighter and aerodynamic that it appears they achieve a better mpg becuase of this, although I'm still suprised that they can accomplish this type of distance uncorked

Now I certainly do for see smaller, lighter, and more aero friendly TTs in the future. May come sooner if Robby shows them something at the 500

It will certainly be interesting...

Yes Arciero Miller Racing (aka Ryan Arciero & Mark Miller) worked with an engineer to develop and make the mobile refueling truck. They practice and perfected this non stop refueling station like two planes would do in the air. It was awesome and it was a big contributor to their victory that year. After that race Score outlawed the system and made a fueling rule.
