Robby Gordon says Brickyard more important than Daytona 500 (article)

Novelty of race wearing thin

But to the folks for whom racing is a livelihood as well as a passion, few days are more eagerly awaited than this one.

"It's the Brickyard," owner/driver Robby Gordon said Saturday. "I'd rather win this race than the Daytona 500 if I had my choice."

Gordon's an extreme case with close ties to the track through 10 Indianapolis 500s as well as nine Brickyards.

Still, his sentiment is echoed throughout the garage.

"This is our second-biggest race," said Richard Petty, who made his name with seven victories in the biggest, Daytona.

"It really opened up NASCAR to the rest of the world when we came to Indy."
