Charlotte, N.C. (October 16, 2012) – As near perfect weather conditions blanketed the Arizona desert, nearly 150 entrants flooded the Parker, Ariz., area for the sights and sounds of the 3rd annual BlueWater Desert Challenge. This event saw Robby Gordon of Charlotte, N.C., back behind the wheel of his familiar Speed Energy, RPM Offroad, Toyo Tires, and 4 Wheel Parts off road truggy looking to continue his dominance in the Best of the Desert Class 1500.
In qualifying, Gordon was able to race around the 3-mile sandy track the quickest, putting him on the overall pole to start Saturday’s race. However, shortly after the green flag flew on Saturday afternoon, Gordon was able to showcase an incredible amount of driving talent saving his Speed Energy, Toyo Tires truggy from rolling multiple times. In typical Gordon fashion the thought of lifting never crossed his mind, continuing to navigate the dusty challenging 25-mile course in convincing fashion to capture the overall top position in the first half of the BlueWater Desert Challenge.
On the final day of competition, Gordon once again shot out to a commanding lead, not only finishing well ahead of everyone in the Class 1500, but ahead of any other four wheel vehicle. Gordon’s dominating performance both days, posted the overall best time of all competitors, not only giving Gordon the win in the Class 1500, but the overall BlueWater Desert Challenge win.
At the awards ceremony afterwards, Gordon gave special thanks to his crew for building and maintaining a vehicle for him to drive that was “Robby proof.” The BlueWater Desert Challenge marks Gordon’s second victory of the year at the Parker, Ariz. track as he was the overall winner of the BlueWater Resort Parker 425 back in February.
The final event for the Best in the Desert Challenge is set for December 1-2 in Henderson, Nev., where Gordon will be crowed the 2012 Best in the Desert Class 1500 champion at the conclusion of the event.
