Can't catch a break. Hope he's ok. Didn't say anything on the radio after the crash. Luckily Fox showed him moving around otherwise I'd be freaking out.
Ken, you are using driver points, not Owner Points. Speed has 607 driver points, but has only started 7 of the 8 races. His owner does get points for the attempt, even though he didn't make the race. My math has Speed at 635, so with any penelty, it will be "go or go home" time for us.
It was a good run but this idea of riding in the back is getting old. Cars that don't handle well and cars with damage sit back there. Not a good place to be with less than 50 to go.
If there was ever a time for Mike Helton and NASCAR to show Rob a little love, it's now. He gets taken out in a hard hit and the error came in qualifying.
Plus, I'll bet you right now NASCAR is more worried about its image after those seven fans were injured. Perhaps Rob and Reed will skate through unscathed.
I just got off the phone with Reed's PR rep and what he told me was it was a parts failure that caused the 43 car to be too low.
If Rob's car had the same issue - maybe - just maybe - he might skate on this.
Further proof that being a Robby fan is never easy.
Oh, I was at a reunion of old veteran racers at the Columbia (SC) speedway and I got to talking with some fans who were giving me grief about rooting for Rob.
One guy told me he was a Gordon fan, and I told him, it takes a lot of courage to root for the 7 - not nearly as much guts is required to root for one of golden boys.
