BLYTHE - Almquist Hot Rods added a new division to its company and has now become Almquist Hot Rods & Distributing, as of April 19. The company's newest product is Robby Gordon's Speed Energy Drink, which will be the only distributor in Blythe.

NASCAR driver and off-road racing legend Gordon has also agreed to donate $1.50 to Palo Verde College's automotive program for every case sold by Almquist Hot Rods & Distributing.

Almquist Hot Rods & Distributing owner Kirk Almquist, who is no stranger to the NASCAR circuit, is currently an instructor at PVC and saw a need to increase funding for the racing and fabrication class.

The Auto 090 Racing and Fabrication class that Almquist teaches, with the help of former auto class instructor Henry Rinaldi, enables students to learn how to build race cars. Classes are held on Saturdays from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. These same race cars can then be seen racing around the Lucas Oil I-10 Speedway in the Factory Stock division on Saturday nights. Palo Verde College Auto 090 students Tommy Nordell is behind the wheel of the #06 car, #145 is driven by Robert Spivey, while Ethan Miller drives #55.

Gordon has agreed to participate in donating money to the college's program in an effort to help keep the program up and running. The funds will also be used to build a street stock race car to be raced at Lucas Oil in the Auto 090 class in the future.

Locals can support Palo Verde College students and the program by purchasing Speed Energy drink from one of the local vendors in the valley including:

For those who dont know or remember Kirk Almquist was Robby Gordon's crew chief in 2009. If I remember right Kirk chose to get out of NASCAR and go back to California to teach and start his own business.
Blyth has all those outlets and we only have 3 in Orange County, Cal. Rob's home county. More SPEED!!
