I sure hope this concept does not get hijacked by another team. But like i tell my friends, don't ever mention a swimming pool tax out loud you never know who is listening. So delete this.
I liked the coverage in the shop. I'm an engineering junkie. Racing is a lifestyle and a way of life.

I also like that they are not satisfied with second. This team wants to win and with hard work and dedication they will get there. They definitely do it their way.

Bobby said "It is a great organization", "four teams times four teams do this every week", and "maybe there is some we can do together." Multiple teams with Bobby?
Robby has always said that if a driver can find sponsership then he would welcome starting a new team. That's the main reason RGM has not been a multiple car operation. Bobby probably has the best ability (compared to other drivers talked about doing this) to capture adequate sponsership to drive a second car at RGM. IMO
It's cool seeing the guys talking about going to races to win and not being happy with 2nd. Montreal and WG should be interesting! I don't care what anyone says either...........7 at the top of any speed chart, for whatever time period, and for whatever reason is good for our guys. Great episode!
AGREED
Agreed
Wow...pretty big hint dropped there by Bobby.

as always, awesome job on the episode - they are awesome.

A couple fo questions for future episodes:

- RGM making it's own cars. This seems like a big, big deal to RG - and the team members seem to dig it too. How does this differ from what the other teams do and why is it a benefit to RGM?

- Engines: How does/do engine programs work? Does RGM spend any time on engine stuff or do they install and go? Whatever the answer is....does it differ from what the other teams do? (as an example, I read that JGR spent 1M a year on oil research)

- Team member backgrounds: What kind of background do the team members have, what does it take to be a part of a Nascar team?

As an editorial comment: "Larry Mac" with the "I don't get it" - really? is your world so nascar focused you can't see how RGM running Dakar and Offroad migh open up sponsorship opportunities for the team? Sometimes theese guys say things that just make me shake my head.

Anyway, thanks to TOG, Rowdy and RGM for the glimpse behind the scenes. I'm sure you're all working on product placement and the revenue side....judging by the comments - seems like a whole lot of us would be interested in the different kinds of tools (brands) used, what type of software is used to analyze races, etc.

Happy 4th - looking forward to a good race tonight. I don't think it will take long for RG to get to the front.
Christopher,

Building their own cars is big because they are not at the mercy of what someone else delivers to them and when. If you break it, your guys fix it right then. Also, a lot of 2nd tier teams who purchase cars from larger teams with their own fab shops don't necessarily get the latest, state of the art chassis. They may get a previous generation's design.

As far as the engine program goes, RGM is leasing engines from Triad. Teams like JGR, Hendricks, RCR/EGR, and Roushe/Yates have their own internal engine shops that do engine R&D and building. Other teams lease engines from them, or TRD or Triad, etc. The engine tuner shown in Episode 5 is most likely a Triad employee, I'm guessing. If you look closely, you can see the Triad emblem on his shirt. On most leases, you can be billed by the event and/or even by mileage. A tuner is provided to you for the event. I don't know what RGM pays, but a good example of costs were layed out when Ginn/DEI merged. Ginn had a lease contract with Hendricks for 3 Cup cars and a nationwide car. The lease was for 36 races and 9 special events or tests. All told, it was just under $13 million dollars for the 4 cars. Others have said a hendricks cup engine leases for $82-85k per event, which includes the tuner and spares. After the event is over, the team pulls the engine and returns it to the leasing engine shop.
Shane thanks, I have never researched that part of the program ( still working on chassie info ) Big money in the motor programs......
Speedfactory 5 really gave some good insights on where RG and RGM are going, and who they have to get them there. So how do we get sponsorship?
interesting Bobby comment. Suggested having some sort of synergy/coordination between the small teams. Make sense.

Also Robby mentioning that the Argentina meeting in some way could translate into the Cup side of the organization. Maybe that comment was just some sort of justification of being gone last week, or maybe not.

Speedfactory.tv kicks ass. Hope it translates into mas dinero for the racing team, more sponsors, and building the Robby Gordon brand to a larger market. It is pretty trailblazing - I expect the speedfactory concept will be the norm for most teams in the future. Maybe the speedfactory.tv site will become a portal for other racers and not limited to the Nascar market. Where can I buy stock hahahah
Its a perfect production. All by design. each week you see something new. Whats the point of doing it if you " show it all " in one episode ?
