I hate to read stuff like this.
That is awful.
That is a terrible accident.
A racer's worst nightmare.
in case some folks may have missed it, Robby sent out a tweet about this incident:

RobbyGordon: Just heard the news about what happened out in Johnson Valley My thoughts & prayers go out to all and their families #offroad #johnsonvalley
My son was at the race and was 50' from the crash, saw the hole thing, it was a real bad thing a big mess, do not belive all the things you are here about offroad racing in the pres. today
As we remember the injured and killed, we also need to remember the driver. My heart goes out to him. Though it was an accident, he must be in a really horrible place right now. Not sure how someone recovers from something like that. I know I've stood too close before, I know I won't in the future. One of the girls killed was 20 yrs old and from Vegas. What a tragic waste of life.
Here is the story as reported in CA today including a video of the accident as it occurred. If you watch it, please note it was just another day at the races for the fans and teams there. I read the stories about the driver having to flee as he was being stoned by irate fans. At no time did it appear the driver did anything on purpose to cause this accident.
Prayers out to the families and friends of the victims as well as the driver and team.

Every fan that standing next to the track was risking their life. It is a choice they made. It is not the drivers fault. I hope the race officials and authorities don't over react and place barriers and restrictions.
Reminded me of DAKAR two years ago when the second Hummer missed a turn and hit a spectator. It was said then that the crowds were too close. Looking at the video, the spectators were out of control too close to the road. Can't pin that on the driver, poor guy.

if they didnt have security people in between the grandstands & catchfence at Talladega ( or any other nascar track ) every week we would hear a story about somebody sticking their arms through the fence trying to see how close they can get to the cars. And every week there would be a yellow for arm debris.

Common sense prevails....Alcohol clouds that common sense.
I've been to many races where there were no security people next to the fence. The amazing thing is no one ever put their hand through the fence.

What kind of people do you hang around with?
