I really hope Test B comes back negative. I cant believe AJ would use. He has been given his best opportunity with Penske and just cant imagine he would jeopardize his carrier. Then again I would have never thought Mayfield would have destroyed his life either!

AJ's wife is a massage therapist that actually has many drivers and their families as clients. I wonder if AJ could have taken some medication (muscle relaxers) that she could have given him and not prescribed it to him, or notified NASCAR of what he could have been taking? Would that show in a drug test?

It would be nice to see Dodge try to get RG in the 22 car while AJ is out. It probably won't happen but it would sure be cool seeing him with a car with good power.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- AJ Allmendinger has been suspended temporarily by NASCAR for failing a random drug test.

Allmendinger's Penske Racing team put Nationwide Series regular Sam Hornish Jr. in the No. 22 car for Saturday night's Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway, according to a statement. Allmendinger underwent a random drug test administered last weekend at Kentucky Speedway, and his 'A' sample from that test came up positive, according to Steve O'Donnell, NASCAR's senior vice president for racing operations.

O'Donnell added that Allmendinger had 72 hours to request a test of his 'B' sample, per the NASCAR rule book. If he declines that test, or if that test also comes up positive, his suspension will become indefinite.

The Penske team said NASCAR notified it of Allmendinger's suspension Saturday afternoon. "NASCAR has a strict drug testing program that Penske Racing fully supports," the team said in a statement. "Penske Racing will work with NASCAR through this process and its next steps. Sam Hornish Jr. will drive the No. 22 car in tonight's Coke Zero 400."

Allmendinger's Penske teammate, Brad Keselowski, added on Twitter: "No comments on 22 car tonight as we focus on tonight's race. Thank [you] in advance."

Hornish had returned to the Charlotte, N.C., area after Friday night's Nationwide race at Daytona, and was flying back to the speedway late Saturday afternoon.

Allmendinger is the highest-profile driver to test positive under NASCAR's substance-abuse policy since Jeremy Mayfield did so in 2009. Rather than submit to NASCAR's path to reinstatement -- which varies depending on the individual, and can include further medical evaluation or treatment -- Mayfield filed suit against the sanctioning body, precipitating a drawn-out legal tussle that ended when his case was dismissed by a federal court earlier this year.

Allmendinger, in his first season with Penske, was hired to drive the No. 22 car after Kurt Busch parted ways with the organization late last year. He stood 23rd in Sprint Cup standings entering Saturday night's event. Hornish endured a rocky tenure at the Sprint Cup level before finding his footing in the Nationwide Series, where he is currently fourth in championship points.

This from Jayski;

Allmendinger suspended for failing drug test: NASCAR announced 90 minutes before the race that #22-A.J. Allmendinger has failed a random drug test and has been "temporarily" suspended. He was randomly selected and tested following the Kentucky race and his "A" sample tested positive. He has the right to request that NASCAR test his "B" sample. Should he refuse to have the "B" sample tested, or if that test is positive, the suspension will become indefinite. Sam Hornish will replace him in the #22 at Daytona.(7-7-2012)
Official Announcement: Driver AJ Allmendinger has been temporarily suspended from NASCAR competition based upon notification of a positive "A" test NASCAR received from the Medical Review Officer as stated in Section 19-11B (6,7) of the NASCAR Substance Abuse Policy. Pursuant to the rule book, Allmendinger has the opportunity to request within the next 72 hours that his "B" sample be tested. NASCAR will follow its policies and procedures set forth in the rule book in dealing with this matter.(NASCAR)(7-7-2012)
Penske Statement: "NASCAR notified Penske Racing this afternoon that AJ Allmendinger was administered a drug test earlier this week, and those results tested positive. NASCAR has a strict drug testing program that Penske Racing fully supports. Penske Racing will work with NASCAR through this process and its next steps. Sam Hornish will drive the No. 22 car in (Saturday's) Coke Zero 400."(Penske Racing)(7-7-2012)

"administered a drug test earlier this week".....

I first met AJ when he was running the Barber Pro Series. Yes, I know he got a DUI a few years ago but he's far from an alcoholic - he made a bad decision. This seems very out of character for him. He's a good kid.

It's also important to note that Penske has their own internal drug and alcohol testing program.

I'm hoping this is a false positive situation - drug testing is not always 100%, hence the B sample test.

Jeremy's failed drug tests didn't surprise me. His erratic behavior with the teams he drove for and the reality show he did, made it be no surprise. I don't smoke weed, but its very common. If he is truly dirty, I hope its weed and not something more sever like meth

I posted the facts. IMO; I couldn't understand the time line. Nascar does this every week, I thought. Besides the 4th in the middle of the Week, I wasn't sure why the last minute deal. My other thought is Nascar wanted to make sure. Aj seems to be a positive light for Nascars chandelier. Maybe it's all just a big mistake.....

media sinsationalism from Na$crap. Maybe they picked Saturday to announce becouse Roger wasn't at Daytona. If they had picked earlier in the week,Penske would have been able to provide their own test results?

the more I think about AJ's deal the more I suspect Na$crap is up to no good. I would guess that Penske has procedures for drivers/team members that are requested to sample. The teams should have C and D samples tested by a/or more independent lab/s. Independent of Na$crap's lab.Teams have to much invested in drivers to put all your trust in Na$crap doing the right thing.
AJ isn't so stupid as to do an illegal drug (do you think Lynn would be party to AJ being that stupid) I just don't see AJ screwing up his relationship with Roger.

JR.......don't forget Hornaday he tested + and then they found out he was on a perscribed med.....go one step farther Ryan Braun on the Brewers was tested + and then they found out he was being treated for herpies. So keep the faith.
